Des & the Swagmatics releases "My Place"- a Funk-Fueled Disco Anthem Featuring, Gloria Gaynor's Horn Section

originally published: 04/28/2025

(ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Des & the Swagmatics are back in a big way with their long-awaited new single, "My Place," via Telegraph Hill Records. A sultry, dancefloor-ready throwback infused with the spirit of classic disco and featuring live horns from Gloria Gaynor's legendary touring horn section, "My Place" captures the raw energy and undeniable groove of an era when funk and soul ruled the charts.

"We've been sitting on so much music that we’re beyond excited to finally bring it to life," says Deseree Spinks, the powerhouse vocalist and frontwoman of Des & the Swagmatics. "This song is all about that magic moment—when you see someone across the room, lock eyes, and know you just have to make a move. We wanted the sound to be as bold and confident as that feeling, and nothing brings it home like real, live horns."

With their signature blend of R&B, rock, soul, funk, and pop, Des & the Swagmatics have built a reputation for high-energy performances and genre-bending musicianship. Their infectious sound and immense stage presence has earned them three Asbury Park Music Awards, an Emmy-winning PBS feature, and festival appearances at North 2 Shore, Roots Rock Revival, and What a Wonderful Year. They’ve shared the stage with legendary acts like Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes and even performed at New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s election night after-party.

"We’ve poured years into perfecting this track, and bringing in Gloria Gaynor’s horn section gave it the punch and authenticity we were looking for," says Joe Pomarico, producer and founder of Telegraph Hill Records. "Des & the Swagmatics have always had that undeniable groove, but ‘My Place’ takes it to another level."

For fans of Silk Sonic, Prince, Lizzo, and Lake Street Dive, "My Place" is an essential new anthem that captures the group’s signature fusion of throwback soul and contemporary pop swagger.

Des & the Swagmatics are currently in the studio recording their highly anticipated debut LP, and "My Place" marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the band.

Established in 2013, Des & the Swagmatics have been trailblazing their way through the East Coast music scene with an exhilarating mix of funk, soul, rock, and R&B. Led by Deseree Spinks, the band includes Randy Preston (guitar), Craig Lawlor (drums/vocals), Ray Saada (keys/vocals), and Kevin Stryker (bass). They’ve lit up legendary venues including The Stone Pony, Convention Hall, Rockwood Music Hall, and The Bitter End, leaving audiences breathless with their thrilling performances.
