Westminster Conservatory at Nassau features music from Norway on January 21

originally published: 01/16/2021

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The next virtual Westminster Conservatory at Nassau recital will be released on Thursday, January 21 at 12:15pm as a video embedded in the Nassau Presbyterian Church website .  Husband and wife team Danielle Sinclair, soprano, and Michael Jacobsen, piano will perform songs of Edvard Grieg and piano settings of traditional Norwegian folk songs and dance music.

Danielle Sinclair has performed with orchestras throughout the country in works ranging from Bach's Magnificat and St. John Passion to Respighi's Lauda per la Natività del Signore and Orff's Carmina Burana.  She has appeared in numerous operatic roles including Musetta in La Bohème, Despina in Così fan tutte, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Gretel in Hansel and Gretel and Mabel in Pirates of Penzance.  In 1990 she won Seattle's 200+1 Vocal Competition, and in 1995 she won the prestigious Opera at Florham Guild Competition.  Ms. Sinclair has been a frequent artist in Westminster Conservatory's concert and recital series, and performs often with the Princeton Society of Musical Amateurs.  Currently head of the voice department at Westminster Conservatory, she also heads the vocal program for the Conservatory’s Honors Music Program.

Michael Jacobsen is a professional musician and music educator currently serving in his 26th year on the piano faculty of Westminster Conservatory.  In addition to teaching, he is an active performer, appearing regularly with the Westminster Community Orchestra, the Princeton Society of Musical Amateurs, Westminster Concert Series programs and the Princeton Variety Theater, where he also served as music director.  He has developed and produced numerous programs for the Conservatory’s concert series, including children’s concerts, faculty concerts, historical concert reenactments and the Kaleidoscope Concert Series.  Mr. Jacobsen is the past director of the Westminster Youth Opera Workshop, for which he wrote five youth operas that are still performed regularly by schools and opera companies throughout the U.S. and Canada.

A new Westminster Conservatory at Nassau video will be available on the church website at 12:15pm on the third Thursday of each month and remain available for viewing.  The artist on February 18 will be Marvin Rosen, piano.

This program is made possible in part by the Mercer County Cultural and Heritage Commission through funding from the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts.
