(MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Outpost in the Burbs presents Suzanne Vega - Flying with Angels on October 30, 2026 at 8:00pm (doors @ 7:00pm). The concert will take place at the First Congregational Church (40 South Fullerton Avenue) in Montclair.
Suzanne Vega will perform a career-spanning show including favorites like “Tom’s Diner”, “Luka”, “Marlene On The Wall”, and many more, plus songs from her latest album, Flying with Angels, which was released in May 2025 to critical acclaim. She will be joined on stage by her longtime guitarist, Gerry Leonard (of David Bowie fame), and cellist Stephanie Winters.
The media has heaped praise upon Flying With Angels, with Rolling Stone proclaiming, "Suzanne Vega retains her knack for lucid reflections and crisp music to match... Her voice remains both knowing and observant,” and naming it one of 2025’s best albums. Stereogum observes, "Veteran Alt-rocker Suzanne Vega is still making great music... It's not an exaggeration to call her a straight-up legend."
Finding Connecticut called a recent performance “nothing short of mesmerizing, weaving tales through her soulful songs in a cozy setting that allowed for a deep connection with the audience”, while Patch declared, "Suzanne Vega wove a spell of light and shadow, blending classics and new material with intimate stories for a memorable night”.

Widely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk revival of the early 1980s. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Vega sang what has been called contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known venues. Known for performances that convey deep emotion, Vega’s distinctive, “clear, unwavering voice” (Rolling Stone) has been described as “a cool, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper” by The Washington Post, with NPR Music noting that she “has been making vital, inventive music” throughout the course of her decades-long career.
Bearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller who “observes the world with a clinically poetic eye” (The New York Times), Vega’s songs have tended to focus on city life, ordinary people and real-world subjects. Notably succinct and understated, her work is immediately recognizable—as utterly distinct and thoughtful as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 40 years ago.
Outpost in the Burbs is a nonprofit organization in Montclair dedicated to building community through music and volunteerism. For over 38 years, the Outpost has presented concerts by internationally known artists such as Judy Collins, Roger McGuinn,, Jorma Kaukonen, Jimmy Webb, Richie Havens, The Jayhawks, Nick Lowe, and Dar Williams as well as supporting emerging and local artists. In addition to presenting concerts, Outpost volunteers have donated their time with MESH (Montclair Emergency Services for Hope) and a monthly Community Soup Kitchen run by Outpost volunteers in Orange, NJ. The Outpost has partnered with other nonprofit organizations such as The Light of Day Foundation and the independent media site, NJArts.net. The Outpost has also supported local students with a monetary gift to a graduating music student at Montclair High School as well as mentoring students from Montclair State University’s ‘Hawk Communications’ class.
