Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" (MADISON, NJ) -- The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey (STNJ) presents Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, written by David Catlin, from October 22 through November 16, 2025 at the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre. On a stormy night in 1816, Mary Shelley gave birth to one of literature's most haunting and enduring legends. 'An Old-Fashioned Family Murder' – A Whodunit at George Street Playhouse Many theater goers enjoy going to see a "whodunit." This genre of theater includes mystery stories involving some sort of crime being committed. There are elements of suspense and fun as it challenges the audience to figure out who is responsible. If you are in the mood to solve an onstage theatrical crime, go to George Street Playhouse and see An Old-Fashioned Family Murder.
Crossroads Theatre Company presents "Crumbs from the Table of Joy" by Lynn Nottage (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Crossroads Theatre Company (CTC) opens their season with Lynn Nottage's Crumbs from the Table of Joy from October 24 – November 23, 2025. The production is directed by Nataki Garrett, a brilliant educator, artistic leader and winner of the prestigious Doris Duke Artist Award. The play follows the Crump family after the passing of their beloved matriarch.
McCarter Theatre presents "300 Paintings" by Comedian Turned Artist Sam Kissajukian (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Sometimes a breakdown coincides with the biggest breakthrough. In 2021, Sydney comedian Sam Kissajukian quit stand-up, rented an abandoned cake factory, and became a painter. Over the course of a six-month manic episode, he created 300 large-scale paintings—unknowingly chronicling his mental state in real time.
Lewis Center for the Arts' Program in Theater & Music Theater presents "A Moment of Silence" by Mohammad Yaghoubi (PRINCETON, NJ) -- The Lewis Center for the Arts' Program in Theater and Music Theater at Princeton University presents A Moment of Silence by celebrated Iranian playwright and director Mohammad Yaghoubi. The play, presented in an English translation, offers a surreal, poetic, unexpectedly humorous, and deeply human meditation on Iran's turbulent modern history. Performances are October 31, November 1 and 7 at 8:00pm and November 8, 2025 at 2:00pm & 8:00pm at the Berlind Theatre at McCarter Theatre Center.
McCarter Theatre Hosts Special Halloween Evening of "300 Paintings" (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Join McCarter Theatre Center on Friday, October 31, 2025 for a special Halloween evening of 300 Paintings! State Theatre New Jersey presents "Mrs. Doubtfire" - The New Musical Comedy (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Mrs. Doubtfire – The New Musical Comedy with four performances from November 1-2, 2025. Out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard will do anything for his kids. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he creates the kindly alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives.
Classic American Tales presents works by Alcott, Davies, and Poe (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- In October, Classic American Tales (CAT) presents four different events in two different Cape May locations: The Dormer House B&B and Rea's Farm. Events include their annual presentation of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart," with Gayle Stahlhuth.
Luna Stage's Off-Broadway Hit "Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library" Comes Home to West Orange (WEST ORANGE, NJ) -- Launching Luna Stage's 2025-2026 season with a five-week run, the two-time Off-Broadway hit Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian State Library returns to Luna from October 3rd to November 9, 2025. Jenny Lyn Bader's play, praised by John McWhorter in the New York Times as "a lesson on perceiving humanity and even dignity in all people under even the toughest of conditions," was called of the Best Dramas of the Year by This Week in New York, selected as one of Cititour's Hot 5 Off-Broadway Shows, and named to Theaterscene's 2024 10 Best List.
Ego Actus Theatre Company to Present a Reading Series Showcasing Female Playwrights (NEW YORK, NY) -- Ego Actus Theatre Company will bring six new plays to life in the Women's Drama Reading Series. The readings are free to the public and will take place on Monday nights from October 6 - November 10, 2025 at The Episocopal Actor's Guild (East 29th St, NYC 10016). Women’s Drama is in response to the lack of diversity in many NYC and national theatre companys seasons this year.
Paper Mill Playhouse Announces Cast and Creative Team for "Bull Durham" (MILLBURN, NJ) -- Paper Mill Playhouse has announced the casting and the creative team for Bull Durham, the first production of their 2025-2026 season. The new musical begins performances Thursday, October 2 ahead of a Sunday, October 12 in a run that continues through Sunday, November 2, 2025.
Music Mountain Theatre presents the Tony-winning musical thriller "Sweeney Todd" (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre presents Sweeney Todd weekends from October 17 through November 2, 2025. Based on the play by Christopher Bond, this Tony-winning musical features a score by Stephen Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler. It's a story of love and murder set in 19th century London, where an unjustly exiled barber returns home seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him.
Summit Playhouse presents "The Mousetrap" by Agatha Christie (SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents The Mousetrap by Agatha Christie weekends from October 18 through November 2, 2025, at The Summit Playhouse. Step into the world's longest-running play — a classic whodunit packed with secrets, suspicion, and murder. Snowed in at a remote guesthouse, a group of strangers soon discovers that one of them is a killer.
Somerset Valley Players presents "The Lion in Winter" (HILLSBOROUGH, NJ) -- The Somerset Valley Players presents The Lion in Winter by James Goldman weekends from October 17 - November 2, 2025. This is a modern-day classic with sibling rivalry, adultery, and dungeons.
The Ritz Theatre Company presents "The Rocky Horror Show" (HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- The Ritz Theatre Company presents The Rocky Horror Show from October 17 - November 2, 2025. Being performed on the Ritz mainstage for the very first time, the campy "science fiction" classic, The Rocky Horror Show, will thrill audiences just in time for Halloween!
Hudson Theatre Works presents Edward Albee's "At Home At The Zoo" (WEEHAWKEN, NJ) -- Hudson Theatre Works is starting its season of plays, until the Performing Arts Center is completed, at the historic Weehawken Water Tower. The season begins with Edward Albee's "At Home At The Zoo" running from October 23 - November 8, 2025. This work combines Albee's groundbreaking 1959 short play The Zoo Story with his acclaimed prequel Homelife written in 2004.
American Theater Group presents "Our Town" (UNION, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG) presents the Pulitzer Prize-winning Our Town by Thornton Wilder as the company's 2025-26 Season Opener. The production runs October 23 through November 9, 2025 at the DMK Theater in Union and at the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge.
"In the Wilderness of Demons" has World Premiere in NYC (NEW YORK, NY) -- American Theatre of Actors' Cullum Theatre presents the World Premiere of In the Wilderness of Demons, a Ukrainian Folk Thriller by acclaimed American playwright Don Nigro, from October 23 - November 2, 2025. Intertwining Ukrainian folklore, mysticism, and movement, a witch and a folklorist meet in a remote village — where myth collides with reality. Giving fresh eyes and thoughts to ancient legends, this production is designed to be a new paradigm in stage drama.
NJCU's Center for the Arts presents "Assassins" (JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- NJCU's Center for the Arts presents Assassins across two weekends from October 24 - November 2, 2025. Our nation's most notorious assassins gather on stage to violently pursue a twisted American Dream. The musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and Book by John Weidman. The production is directed by Marc G. Dalio.

The play written by Kenneth Lonergan follows Gladys, the elderly matriarch of the Green family, who has run an art gallery in a small Greenwich Village hotel for many years.
Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center presents "Macbeth" (PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center will bring one of Shakespeare's most haunting tragedies to life this fall with its production of Macbeth, running October 24 through November 2, 2025, at the duCret Center of Art. Macbeth tells the chilling story of a Scottish nobleman whose ambition, stoked by prophecy and manipulation, drives him to murder and madness. Classic Radio Road Show presents "War of the Worlds" (MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ) -- Imagine it's October 30, 1938. You're gathered around the radio, listening to a peaceful evening broadcast when suddenly... it's interrupted by a news bulletin. Strange gas explosions are reported on Mars, followed by a meteorite landing in rural New Jersey. Panic and chaos ensue as an alien invasion unfolds, all live on the air.
Bergen County Players presents "The Game's Afoot: Or Holmes for the Holidays" (ORADELL, NJ) -- Bergen County Players is thrilled to continue its 93rd season with Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig's uproarious whodunnit The Game's Afoot: Or Holmes for the Holidays. The limited run opens October 25 and runs through November 15, 2025. It takes place Christmas Eve 1936 and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, invites his fellow Broadway cast members to his lavish Connecticut mansion for an elegant weekend of revelry.
The Players Guild of Leonia to hold auditions for "Blithe Spirit" (LEONIA, NJ) -- The Players Guild of Leonia will hold auditions for Blithe Spirit on Monday, October 27 at 7:30pm; Tuesday, October 28 at 7:30pm; and Saturday, November 1, 2025 at 10:00am. This is a delightfully witty comedy by Noël Coward. Auditions will take place at the theater (130 Grand Ave.) in Leonia, NJ. The production will be directed by Glenn Woertz.
Passage Theatre Company to stage classic Amiri Baraka plays Dutchman and The Slave as two acts of the same show (TRENTON, NJ) -- Hot off the heels of a landmark 40th Anniversary season, Passage Theatre Company is starting season 41 ready to take on new creative challenges and present socially relevant professional theater for the capital city of New Jersey. The first show of the new season is a visionary staging of two of Amiri Baraka's plays, Dutchman and The Slave, directed as two acts of one full-length play by Passage Theatre's season 41 artist-in-residence Ozzie Jones. This production stars Phillip Brown as CLAY and WALKER, Deidre Rose as LULA and GRACE, and Peter Bisgaier as BRADFORD EASLEY. The production runs Wednesdays through Sundays, from October 30th to November 16th, 2025.
Arden Theatre Company presents "The Mountaintop" by Katori Hall (PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- Arden Theatre Company presents The Mountaintop, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Katori Hall, and directed by Barrymore Award-winning director Brett Ashley Robinson. Running October 30 through December 14, 2025 on the Arcadia Stage, the 90-minute reimagining of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s final night, invites audiences into a deeply intimate and human portrait of one of the most iconic leaders of the 20th century.
NJ Rep presents the World Premiere of "The Drop Off" by James Anthony Tyler (LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- New Jersey Repertory Company (NJ Rep) is proud to present the world premiere of The Drop Off, a powerful new comic-drama by James Anthony Tyler, recipient of the 3rd Annual Horton Foote Playwriting Award. Directed by Delicia Turner Sonnenberg, performances will run October 30 through November 23, 2025, and opening night will be celebrated on November 1 at 7:00pm.
American Theater Group presents "Our Town" Post-Performance Talkback (UNION, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG) will present a Talkback session entitled "The Enduring Legacy of Our Town" following the Thursday, October 30, 2025 performance of Our Town at the DMK Theater at the new Union Arts Center (7:00pm showtime). The event will be moderated by ATG Producing Artistic Director James Vagias who will be joined by the Thornton Wilder Society Executive Director Mary English and accompanied by Director Merete Muenter and members of the cast. All are welcome to attend and reservations are not necessary.
Classic American Tales presents Poe at Rea's Farm on Halloween (WEST CAPE MAY, NJ) -- Throughout the summer, Rea's Farm offered special events on Friday nights, and this Halloween, October 31, is no different, except this time Classic American Tales' artistic director Gayle Stahlhuth, will present Edgar Allan Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart" at 6:30pm & 7:30pm.
Two River Theater presents the World Premiere of "The Monsters: A Sibling Love Story" (RED BANK, NJ) -- Two River Theater presents the world premiere of The Monsters: A Sibling Love Story, written and directed by Ngozi Anyanwu (Good Grief, The Homecoming Queen, The Last of the Love Letters). Originally commissioned by TRT and presented as a co-production with Manhattan Theatre Club, this powerful new drama will run in the intimate Marion Huber Theater from November 1–23, 2025.

This is a musical adaptation of the beloved 2003 Pixar movie Finding Nemo, with new music by award-winning songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez.
Spotlight Players presents "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" (MATAWAN, NJ) -- Spotlight Players presents A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder across two weekends from November 7-16, 2025 at the Presbyterian Church of Matawan. Follow the ambitious (and slightly devious) Monty Navarro, who discovers he's in line to a family fortune. The only problem? There are eight D'Ysquith heirs standing in his way — and Monty isn't one to wait around for his inheritance.
