Joel Zelnik Trio
Sunday, June 02, 2024 @ 2:00pm

Grunin Center - Studio Theater
1 College Drive, Toms River, NJ 08754

Young pianist Joel Zelnik met the legendary pianist Bill Evans in the mid-1960s when they alternated sets at Greenwich Village’s Top of the Gate. “I have never forgotten sharing the stage with the great Bill Evans,” Zelnik says. “He had such an impact on me as a young man, and his approach to jazz was so influential.”
“My Bill Evans – A Personal Conversation” will feature the Joel Zelnik Trio celebrating the greatness of Bill Evans through the performance of signature Evans works and pieces by Zelnik that show the Evans influence.
Evans, who was born in Plainfield, NJ, is considered one of the most important and influential jazz pianists of all time. Zelnik, born in Elizabeth, has been appearing in New York and New Jersey jazz clubs for more than 50 years. His trio includes bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer David Cox.
Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon is made possible, in part, through the support of the Wintrode Family Foundation.
