Alan Cumming and Ari Shapiro—the famed British actor of screen and stage and the longtime host of NPR's All Things Considered, respectively—may seem like an odd couple, but the two friends are both storytellers who seek to help audiences better understand themselves and the world around them. Born of an impromptu collaboration on stage at one of Shapiro’s solo shows, “Och & Oy: A Considered Cabaret” is an evening of songs and stories with a tongue-in-cheek title that references their Scottish (Och) and Jewish (Oy) heritage. And while the bawdy and risqué two-man cabaret is not formally scripted, the pair does tend to sing the same songs and hit the same beats with an undeniable chemistry, feeding off each other’s energy on stage.
