Southern Rockfest featuring A Brother's Revival and Classic Skynyrd Live

Saturday, March 30, 2024 @ 7:00pm

Mayo Performing Arts Center (MPAC)
100 South Street, Morristown, NJ 07960

A double bill that pays tribute to two of Southern rock's greatest bands. Classic Skynyrd Live, performed by Southern Steel, pays homage to the music of Lynard Skynyrd that has been loved by fans for generations. A Brother's Revival, led by former Allman Brothers bassist David “Rook” Goldflies, brings the music of the Allman Brothers to life.

A BROTHER’S REVIVAL

A Brothers Revival with Allman Brothers / Black Betty Bassist, David “Rook” Goldflies

There is one band with the musical roots to carry on the music and spirit of the Allman Brothers Band; that band is A Brothers Revival.

Former Allman Brothers’ bassist (78-82), and bandleader of A Brothers Revival, David “Rook” Goldflies spent years touring and performing with Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Butch Trucks, and Jaimoe.

With the Allman Brothers, as well as Dickey Betts and Great Southern, David toured the U.S. and Europe and learned first-hand how the Allman Brothers sound was created. He performed for crowds as large as

100,000 people in arenas such as Soldiers Field and Mile High Stadium and on television shows like Saturday Night Live, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, and Solid Gold. Rook received a Grammy nomination for the Allman Brothers instrumental “Pegasus” from Enlightened Rogues; a Billboard Top 10 certified Gold album. David is recognized by many fans as one of the Allman Brothers’ most dynamic bass players, with his playing akin to the aggressive style of the original Allman Brothers’ bassist, Berry Oakley. Other influences include Jack Bruce, Miroslav Vitous, Charlie Haden, Stanley Clarke, and Jaco Pastorius.

Joining Rook in A Brothers Revival is vocalist and keyboardist Mike Kach who toured with Dickey Betts and Great Southern for more than a decade. Mike was Dickey’s choice to carry on the sounds of Gregg Allman’s stellar blues performances. When Mike sings the first few words of the popular show opener “Ain’t My Cross to Bear,” it’s clear that Mike has a gift that brings people back to when they first heard Gregg Allman’s unique voice.

Rook leads A Brothers Revival through all the Allman Brothers’ songs that we love: Jessica, One Way Out, Statesboro Blues, Midnight Rider, Melissa, Ramblin’ Man, In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, Soulshine, Whipping Post, and a few surprises for the fans that enjoy the deep jams. These brothers perform the songs with authentic passion while paying homage to the improvisational spirit of the original band, pushing the songs to new heights.

CLASSIC SKYNYRD

Lynyrd Skynyrd was the band that defined Southern Rock in the 1970’s and built a fan base that continues to grow today. Classic Skynyrd Live, performed by Southern Steel, pays tribute to this iconic band and it’s music that continues to loved by generation after generation of fans. Southern Steel is the requested opening act of The Outlaws when they tour in the Northeast. Their show, Classic Skynyrd Live, delivers an unrivaled level of energy, generating standing ovations and calls for encores time after time. They perform all of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s fan favorites, from Free Bird, Simple Man, That Smell, Sweet Home Alabama, Gimme Three Steps, Call Me the Breeze, I Know a Little and so many more.
