2023 NJACT Perry Awards Winners

(LAKEWOOD, NJ) -- The 2023 NJACT Perry Awards ceremony was held at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood on Sunday, October 1st. The NJACT Perry Awards are given for outstanding achievements in New Jersey Community Theater. The awards are named in honor of William Perry Morgan. Perry, as his friends have always known him, was a gifted director, actor, composer, and musician who was once a driving force in New Jersey Community Theater.



The Barron Arts Center Hosts the "BAC Artist of the Year" Exhibit - Jules Weber: Color My World

(WOODBRIDGE, NJ) -- The Barron Arts Center hosts the "BAC Artist of the Year" Exhibit - Jules Weber: Color My World - from October 4-25, 2023. A self-taught artist with decades of experience, Jules Weber uses various palette knife techniques to layer oil paints on canvas to create rich, realistic and colorful scenes.

The Art House Gallery presents "Connections"

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Productions presents "Connections," from October 7-28, 2023. This group exhibition will be part of the 34th annual Jersey City Art & Studio Tour (JCAST). The exhibition presents nine artists' visual interpretations of the bonds we build. Participating artists: Beth Achenbach, Cheryl Gross, Troy Jones, HakChul Kim, Ceallaigh Pender, Jennifer Morris, ONHEL, Lucy Rovetto, and Ann Vollum.



State Theatre presents "Pretty Woman: The Musical"

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents four performances of Pretty Woman: The Musical from October 7-8, 2023. Based on one of Hollywood's most beloved romantic stories of all, the musical springs to life with a powerhouse creative team led by two-time Tony Award®-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell (Hairspray, Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde).



The Gaslight Anthem Releases "Autumn"

The Gaslight Anthem have released their latest single, "Autumn." The song drifts into a contemplative mood as the band share a deeply felt meditation on impermanence, set against a lovely backdrop of luminous harmonies and oceanic guitar work. "Autumn" heralds The Gaslight Anthem's first new album together in almost a decade, History Books, arriving Friday, October 27 on their own Rich Mahogany Recordings label via Thirty Tigers.



RVCC to Present Online Children's Literature Symposium

(BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- Members of the community are invited to an online Children's Literature Symposium presented by Raritan Valley Community College, October 24, 2023 from 4:00pm-5:30pm. There is no charge for the program, which is being held via Zoom.



New Mercer County Initiative Promotes the Health Benefits of the Arts

(HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- Did you know that attending concerts or visiting museums once or twice a month can reduce the risk of depression in adults over 50 years old by 47%? And that adolescents who participate in the arts are 24% less likely to experience depression — and 22% less likely to engage in substance use? We know through research and our lived experiences that participation in the arts has a positive impact on our physical, emotional and social health.

NJPAC presents a Spring Season of Jazz

(NEWARK, NJ) -- New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents a Spring Season of Jazz with free monthly jazz jams at Clement's Place and two special concert events inside the Victoria Theater. This series, running from September through June, is co-presented by NJPAC's Jazz Advisory Committee and Rutgers University–Newark's Institute of Jazz Studies (IJS). Immerse yourself in the relaxing sounds of jazz music that stimulate the players’ and listeners' minds.

PBS' Independent Lens Launches 20th Season of Free Pop-Up Screening Series in Teaneck and Nationwide

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The award-winning PBS documentary series, INDEPENDENT LENS, presents the launch of the upcoming season of Indie Lens Pop-Up in partnership with the Teaneck International Film Festival and the Puffin Cultural Forum. The season kicks-off on February 4, 2026 with The Librarians and continues through May. The series is free for all but sign up is required.



State

State Theatre New Jersey presents The Sound Studio Series 2026

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey proudly presents The Sound Studio Series, an immersive musical experience that places concertgoers at the very heart of the performance. Held in STNJ's intimate Studio space, limited to just 80 attendees, The Sound Studio Series features a dynamic mix of both classical and rock performances. Each concert concludes with an exclusive post-show meet-and-greet with the artists, offering fans a rare opportunity to connect directly with the performers. Tickets for the series are $20-$30.

Megan Thee Stallion to make her Broadway debut in "Moulin Rouge! The Musical"

(NEW YORK, NY) -- Producers of the Tony Award®-winning, record-breaking Broadway hit Moulin Rouge! The Musical have announced that three-time Grammy Award-winning superstar and actress Megan Thee Stallion will make her Broadway debut in the production as "Zidler", impresario of the titular nightclub. Taking the stage for a strictly limited 8-week engagement, Megan will light up the Al Hirshfeld Theatre from Tuesday, March 24th to Sunday, May 17, 2026, promising an unmissable, moment in the show's legendary run.

Paper Mill Playhouse presents "1776"

(MILLBURN, NJ) -- Paper Mill Playhouse presents 1776, the Tony Award-winning musical, from April 1 through May 2, 2026. It brings the story behind the creation of the Declaration of Independence to the stage with witty satire, compelling drama, and a thrilling score. With music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and book by Peter Stone, 1776 follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and their fellow delegates as they navigate fiery debates, political tensions, and personal conflicts in their struggle to unite thirteen colonies.
