Stockton University Dance Faculty Member Unveils New Project About Life Through Camera Phone Lens

(GALLOWAY, NJ) -- Stockton University Dance faculty member Lauren Putty White will put on a show of improvisatory dance to live jazz music that shares her take on living the phases of life through the lens of the camera phone. Her project "Glimpse" will be performed on Friday, February 2, 2024 in the Stockton Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm.

White has gained a new perspective on memory and nostalgia after becoming a mother. Her show, arranged with 10 original compositions by her husband, Brent White, is a suite for solos, duets and the full ensemble.

“Glimpse” reminds us that while pictures can capture memories in stillness, the act of remembrance keeps them in motion. Integrating familial images with original live music and the dance experience, White intends to take the audience “on a kinetic journey of endearment and hope.”

Tickets are $40 for the general public; $38 for senior citizens; $35 for Stockton University alumni; $30 for Stockton staff and faculty; $18 for children (12 and under); and $10 for Stockton students. Special pricing for groups of 10 or more people is also available.  For more information or to purchase tickets, visit stockton.edu/pac. Tickets also are available at the Stockton Performing Arts Center box office (101 Vera King Farris Drive in Galloway, NJ) from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 90 minutes before showtime. Call 609-652-9000.

White has honed a unique jazz dance vocabulary ranging from influences from Sun Ra Arkestra to Philadanco. She will be joined by exceptional dance artists Joe Gonzalez, a current company member of Complexions Contemporary Ballet Company; Sarah Warren, a member of Artist House/Asya Zlatina + Dancers; and newcomer CeCe Mitchell, a Music faculty member at Drexel University and a Francis Johnson Innovation Fellow.

Brent White on trombone will be joined by a four-piece ensemble with guitar, bass, drums and percussion. With each musician improvising freely to the original tunes, the dancers will collaborate with a mix of music, choreography and improvised play.
