On Aug. 3 at Watermark, beloved Asbury Park singer-songwriter Emily Grove will celebrate the release of a long-awaited solo EP, “Fables.”

The beautiful Joni Mitchell-like track “Josephine” is the Makin Waves Song of the Week.

The track will be streamed here on August 4th when an official video is released.

As the Makin Waves Song of the Week, “Josephine“ also can be heard between 6 and 8 p.m. on July 31 on “Radio Jersey” at ThePenguinRocks.com. If you miss it, you can tune in any time in the archives at The PenguinMixcloud and RadioJersey.

“My EP, “Fables” is a play on the TV show, ‘Fact or Fiction,’” the multiple Asbury Park Music Award-winner said. “So you have to decide what is fact and what is fiction throughout the EP. So think of it like ‘Fact or Fable.’”

She continued, “‘Josephine’ is a story about a lost love returning from a long voyage away and wanting to return home without any consequence to being away for so long. You have to listen to see how it ends!”

A video by two-time Makin Waves Award-winning filmmaker John Decker will drop the day after the release party.

The EP was released in the UK while Emily toured there last fall with Brit singer-songwriter David Ford, whom she also appeared with on “The Today Show,” as well as tours of Ireland, the U.S. and Canada. Having also toured the U.S. and Europe as a headliner, she plans to tour the U.S. in support of “Fables” into 2027.

Emily, who plays acoustic guitar and provides her own backing vocals throughout the EP, is joined by Ray Suhy on electric guitar and Bass VI, Cody McCorry on electric bass, Mike Gilch on Hammond organ, and Steve Honoshowsky on drums. Her band will open the release show with an improvisational instrumental set.

Emily produced “Fables” with Jack Daley, who recorded it at his Dug Deep Production in Asbury. Jack also produced her 2011 debut EP, “Way Across the Sea.” The EPs sandwich the 2014 solo LP, "Life of a Commoner.”

While it’s been more than a decade since Emily released a solo record, she has been makin’ waves throughout that time. Since 2019, she’s released two EPs and several singles with the Asbury-based synthesizer-driven performance art band Daughter Vision. She’s also regularly paid tribute to Joni Mitchell with Joni Jam, which has been endorsed by the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer herself. Emily also pays tribute to Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne in Fairies Wear Boots and 1960s rock with Glen Burtnik’s ongoing Summer of Love tour.
