Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum Announces NJ Arts Annual Artists

(GLASSBORO, NJ) -- Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum is excited to announce the participating artists who will be included in the 2025 New Jersey Arts Annual for Fine Art, presented in partnership with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, opening Saturday, June 7th from 4:00pm-7:00pm, and on display through August 2, 2025.

“We are very pleased to partner with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts to present Artist as Activist for the 2025 Arts Annual,” said Mary Salvante, Director of the Museum. “This exhibition highlights contemporary artists from across the state who responded to concepts of activism through installation, painting, photography, and sculpture.”

Our esteemed jurors, Brittany Webb, Evelyn and Will Kaplan Curator of 20th Century Art and the John Rhoden Collection, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA), and Dejay Duckett, Director of Curatorial Services, African American Museum in Philadelphia (AAMP) selected artists from over 300 entries and include:  Catherine Allen, ShinYoung An, Ellis Angel, Ylvia Asal, Donna Bassin, Kristian Battell, Michael DalCerro, Kirstin Demer, Laura Frazure, Adam Gustavson, Ellen Hanauer, Sam Horowitz, Tony Khawam, Krystle Lemonias Christopher Lopez, Jazlyne Sabree, Chanika Svetvilas, Hui Tian, Alan Willoughby.

The New Jersey Arts Annual is a unique series of exhibitions highlighting the State’s visual and performing artists. In partnership with major museums around the state, one exhibition takes place each year, alternating between host institutions. These exhibitions are open to any artist currently living or working in New Jersey. The Arts Annual series is sponsored by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts. Since 1984, the New Jersey State Arts Council has co-sponsored the prestigious Annual in keeping with its mission to encourage and foster public interest in the arts, promote freedom of expression in the arts, and to facilitate the inclusion of art in every building in New Jersey.

Rowan University Art Gallery & Museum serves as a vibrant cultural destination for South New Jersey, serving the surrounding region. With a mission to provide a platform for discourse on best practices in contemporary art by professional artists, curators and scholars, the museum presents interdisciplinary art exhibitions, panel discussions, guest curatorial projects, and other public programming. As part of the largest university in South Jersey, the museum is committed to cultivating an inclusive environment that encourages dialogue between exhibiting artists, students, faculty, the general public, and other cultural institutions. Year-round programming is made possible in part by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

The gallery is located at 301 High Street in Glassboro, NJ. Admission to the gallery is free and open to the public. Regular gallery hours are Monday – Wednesday, 10:00am to 5:00pm; Thursday - Saturday, 10:00am to 7:00pm. Directions can be found on the gallery website. Free parking is available in the Mick Drive parking garage across from the gallery.

The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, created in 1966, is a division of the NJ Department of State. The Council was established to encourage and foster public interest in the arts; enlarge public and private resources devoted to the arts; promote freedom of expression in the arts; and facilitate the inclusion of art in every public building in New Jersey. The Council receives direct appropriations from the State of New Jersey through a dedicated, renewable Hotel/Motel Occupancy fee, as well as competitive grants from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Monmouth University presents "Georgia O’Keeffe: the Brightness of Light" and Q&A with the Filmmakers

(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Monmouth University's Center for the Arts presents a screening of Georgia O'Keeffe: the Brightness of Light on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 7:00pm in the Pollak Theatre. This is a 2-hour documentary exploring the life and art of the most important woman artist of the 20th century – the "Mother of Modernism." Following the screening, Producer Ellen Casey Wagner and Director Paul Wagner will host a discussion to share insights into the making of the documentary and answer audience questions.



Ocean

Ocean County Library LBI Branch presents Art by Carol Freas

(SURF CITY, NJ) -- The Long Beach Island Branch of the Ocean County Library presents an exhibit of works by Carol Freas from September 2 to October 16, 2025. Patrons can immerse themselves in Freas's watercolor paintings, which bring Barnegat Light's iconic fishing village to life.



Alfa

Alfa Art Gallery presents "The Mundane in Motion"

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Alfa Art Gallery presents the Summer 2025 NBAS Oil, Sculpture and Mixed Media Exhibition, The Mundane in Motion. This is a dynamic group exhibition that transforms everyday gestures into expressive visual language through painting and sculpture. The collection offers a glimpse into the emotional resonance of daily life, highlighting how color, texture, and movement can elevate the ordinary into moments of quiet reflection. The exhibition is free and open from August 26, 2025, until October 18, 2025.



Trenton

Trenton City Museum presents "New Jersey Photography Forum: Fall Is in the Air"

(TRENTON, NJ) -- Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie invites the public to view "New Jersey Photography Forum — Fall Is in the Air" from September 11 to October 19, 2025. Highlighting the beauty and atmosphere of the autumn season, the 75 photographs in this exhibition capture what fall looks like to the exhibiting photographers. The exhibition was curated by Nancy Ori and Mitch Speert.



Skylands

Skylands Museum of Art presents Spotlight on the Artist: Massimo Rao

(LAFAYETTE, NJ) -- The Skylands Museum of Art presents a new fine art exhibition offering a Spotlight on the Artist: Massimo Rao, the Italian artist known for his classic yet somewhat mysterious painting style, opened Memorial Day weekend and will be on view through October 2025. The exhibition is on display in the museum's Sanctuary Gallery and highlights eight Rao works from the permanent collection, including oil and tempera paintings, lithographs and drawings, each of which serve to call attention to his unique creative perspective. Entrance to the Spotlight on the Artist is included with museum admission, a suggested donation of $10 per person.
