After selling out 200 seats in just days, The Light Between – A Modern Cabaret returns for a special encore performance at The Earth Room at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County. Created and performed by PJ Casbar and Tom McCormack, the show blends original music, musical-theater favorites, and modern pop into a character-driven cabaret evening that moves between humor, storytelling, and moments of theatrical surprise.
Running 80 minutes without intermission, the performance invites audiences into a world where music and transformation meet. Inspired by the turning of the seasons, The Light Between explores the space between shadow and illumination—moving from quiet reflection to bursts of springtime joy.
The show's debut performance sold out quickly, and tickets for the April 25 performance are already selling fast.
"We're calling it a cabaret because it's eclectic with some original music, some Broadway, and definitely some unexpected moments," says Casbar. "And it's about transformation, so get ready because we're going to take you on a journey."
Casbar and McCormack bring complementary backgrounds to the stage. Casbar holds a BFA in Speech and Theater from Montclair State College and has performed and produced music across the tristate area. McCormack is a singer-songwriter whose work has appeared in film and television, including the feature film David Searching starring Anthony Rapp.
"Cabaret is about storytelling through song," says McCormack. "We wanted to create a night that includes diverse characters, each one evolving, moving from laughter to reflection and back again."
More than an evening of music, the performance also supports a local cause. All proceeds—including music sales—benefit the programs and operations of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Monmouth County, which hosts the event.
With a mix of storytelling, powerful vocals, and a few no-spoiler moments best experienced live, The Light Between offers a fresh take on modern cabaret for Shore and Monmouth County audiences.
