Thursday, May 9 - The Strollers presents the World Premiere of "Beethoven's Wrong Note: A Steampunk Opera". (MAPLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Strollers present the World Premiere of "Beethoven's Wrong Note: A Steampunk Opera" across two weekends (May 9-19, 2024). This is a light-hearted look behind the scenes as Beethoven attempts to write "the greatest opera yet written!"

Thursday, May 9 - StageWorks Theatre Group presents "Violet". (POMPTON LAKES, NJ) -- StageWorks Theatre Group presents Violet across two weekends (May 9-12 and May 16-19, 2024). It is based on "The Ugliest Pilgrim" by Doris Betts. As a girl, Violet was struck by a wayward axe blade when her father was chopping wood, leaving her with a visible scar across her face. With enough money finally saved she's traveling across the Deep South in 1964 towards a miracle – the healing touch of a TV evangelist who will make her beautiful.

American Theater Group presents the World Premiere of "Canned Goods" by Erik Kahn. (RAHWAY, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG) presents the world premiere of the provocative new play, Canned Goods, by Erik Kahn, May 9-11 at Hamilton Stage in Rahway and May 16-19 at the Sieminski Theater in Basking Ridge. Canned Goods is a historical drama about the little-known incident which contributed to the launch of World War II. NY-based Director Charlotte Cohn will helm the production.

Let the Sunshine In! "Hair" is coming to CDC Theatre in Cranford - (CRANFORD, NJ) -- The American classic rock-musical Hair, the final production of the 105th season at CDC Theatre, celebrates the sixties counterculture in all its barefoot, long-haired, bell-bottomed, beaded and fringed glory. To an infectiously energetic rock beat, the show wows audiences with songs like "Aquarius," "Good Morning, Starshine," "Hair," "I Got Life" and "Let The Sunshine In." Exploring ideas of identity, community, global responsibility and peace, Hair remains as relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in a changing world.

Friday, May 10 - Outpost in the Burbs presents Choir! Choir! Choir! in an EPIC Fleetwood Mac Sing-Along. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Outpost in the Burbs presents a very special evening with Choir! Choir! Choir! in a Fleetwood Mac Sing-Along on Friday, May 10, 2024 at the First Congregational Church (40 S. Fullerton Avenue) in Montclair. Showtime is 8:00pm.

Friday, May 10 - Martell's Tiki Bar to Host Fundraiser for Teddy B. (long-time member of The Sensational Soul Cruisers). (POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ) -- There will be a fundraiser for Eric Barney aka Teddy B. on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Martell's Tiki Bar with entertainment by The Motor City Revue, Carlton J. Smith, High in the Mid 80's and MC Johnny Mac.  The event runs from 7:00pm to 11:00pm and is for 21 and over. If you cannot make the show but wish to help, a GoFund campaign has been set up for Teddy B. as well.

Friday, May 10 - Mercer County Inspires the Next Generation of Artists With Teen Arts Festival. The Mercer County Teen Arts Festival is an annual event that serves as a celebration of the artistic talents of teenagers from Mercer and across the state. This festival, typically held in the late spring, aims to foster the creative development of young artists through a diverse range of workshops, performances, and exhibitions. It provides an invaluable platform for students aged 13 to 19 to showcase their skills in various artistic disciplines and to gain recognition and feedback for their work. It is one of 19 county teen arts festivals that send participants to the New Jersey State Teen Arts Festival in June. For work to be adjudicated at the state level, it must first be selected for adjudication at the county level.

Saturday, May 11 - State Theatre New Jersey presents "Mean Girls". (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Mean Girls, the record-breaking new musical comedy adapted from the hit Paramount Pictures film with four performances May 11-12, 2024. Direct from Broadway, Mean Girls is the hilarious hit musical from an award-winning creative team, including book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde), and director Casey Nicholas (The Book of Mormon).

This is a heartfelt solo show that brings to life the iconic tunes and fascinating story of Fanny Brice with wit and warmth. Showtime is 2:30pm.

Tuesday, May 14 - Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Lyle Lovett And Lisa Loeb: In Conversation And Song. (RED BANK, NJ) -- Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Lyle Lovett And Lisa Loeb: In Conversation And Song on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Doors are at 6:30pm, showtime is 7:30pm.

Thursday, May 9 - Top 15 high school jazz bands head to Jazz at Lincoln Center's Annual Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival. (NEW YORK, NY) -- No figure looms larger in the story of jazz than Duke Ellington whose artistic development and sustained achievement are among the most spectacular and influential in the history of music. On May 9-11, 2024 commemorating the 125th birthday of Duke Ellington — America's most prolific composer of the 20th century in both number of pieces and variety of forms — the top 15 high school-aged jazz bands from across the country will converge at Jazz at Lincoln Center's home, Frederick P. Rose Hall, in New York, NY.

Friday, May 10 - Black Box Studios and The Elated System presents Doom Dogs at Debonair Music Hall. (TEANECK, NJ) -- Black Box Studios and The Elated System presents Doom Dogs, with opener Eels Of Love, on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Debonair Music Hall. Doors open at 6:30pm, showtime is 7:30pm. Doom Dogs is an improvisational trio featuring Reeves Gabrels on guitars, Jonathan Kane on drums, and Jair-Rohm Parker Wells on basses.

Saturday, May 11 - Prudential Center presents DJ Cassidy's "Pass the Mic Live!". (NEWARK, NJ) -- DJ Cassidy will bring his critically acclaimed "Pass The Mic Live!" experience to Prudential Center in Newark on Mother's Day weekend for a sequel to 2023's sold out Inaugural show. In partnership with SJ Presents's annual "Mother's Day Good Music Festival," the unprecedented lineup will unite seven iconic superstars whose game-changing records and influence transformed Hip Hop, R&B, and Pop culture on a global scale. The one-time-only event will feature live performances by Boyz II Men, TLC, Bobby Brown, Method Man & Redman, Faith Evans, Total, and special surprise guests.

Saturday, May 11 - The Adelphi Orchestra Presents "Complexity & Simplicity" with SoHyun Ko. (RIVER EDGE, NJ) -- The Adelphi Orchestra will take audiences on a mesmerizing musical journey with "Complexity & Simplicity," conducted by Maestro Kyunghun Kim, as they celebrate their 70th season alongside the extraordinary talent of SoHyun Ko. Experience a captivating performance featuring Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by Haydn," Mozart's "Concerto for Violin No. 5 'Turkish,'" performed by the acclaimed SoHyun Ko, winner of the 2020 competition, and Schubert's "Symphony No. 5 in B-flat Major." Performances take place May 11-12, 2024.

Saturday, May 11 - Sara David Buechner to Perform Beethoven's First Piano Concerto with the PSO. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- Award-winning pianist Sara David Buechner joins up with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) for performances of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C Major, Op. 15 the weekend of May 11-12, 2024. Edward T. Cone Music Director Rossen Milanov conducts the program which includes John Luther Adams' Become River and Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 4 in D Minor, Op. 120.

Sunday, May 12 - The Wellmont Theater presents Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Together for over 30 years, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy — famously named after an autograph by blues legend Albert Collins — has appeared in concert venues across the world, sold millions of records, and had their music appear in hundreds of movies and television shows. The band comes to The Wellmont Theater on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

Ella Dershowitz and Jill Eikenberry to Star in World Premiere of "Two Hander" at NJ Rep. (LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- New Jersey Repertory Company (NJRep) will continue its 27th Season with the World Premiere of Two Hander by Julia Blauvelt, directed by NJ Rep Artistic Director SuzAnne Barabas. The play stars Ella Dershowitz and Jill Eikenberry and runs from April 18 through May 12, 2024.

Bergen County Players presents "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time". (ORADELL, NJ) -- Bergen County Players (BCP), one of America's longest-running little theater companies, concludes its 2023-2024 mainstage season with the critically acclaimed, Tony Award-winning play The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and directed by Alyson Cohn of Wyckoff, this play tells the story of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old who is wrongly accused of killing his neighbor's dog.

The Summit Playhouse presents "Is He Dead?" by Mark Twain. (SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents Is He Dead? from April 26 to May 11, 2024. This is a play by Mark Twain based on an earlier short story. In it, a young painter of genius is in love but in debt. To achieve fame and fortune, he fakes his death while passing himself off as his own sister. Now rich, he must find a way to get out of a dress, return to life, and marry his love.

South Camden Theatre Company presents "Kill Move Paradise". (CAMDEN, NJ) -- South Camden Theatre Company's 2024 season opens with Philadelphia playwright James Ijames's powerful and satirical play, Kill Move Paradise which runs across three weekends (April 26-28, May 3-5, May 10-12, 2024.). This play explores the themes of stereotypes, fear, and threat of death that black men of all ages face every day. Kill Move Paradise is a drama about police brutality against Black men and women.

OffBook Productions presents North NJ regional premiere of "When Monica Met Hillary". (HACKENSACK, NJ) -- OffBook Productions presents Winter Miller's play When Monica Met Hillary from May 3-12, 2024 at the Hackensack Performing Arts Center. Directed by founding director Laura Iacometta, the play spans a 20+ year timeline, following the lives of Monica Lewinsky and Hillary Clinton, accompanied by Lewinsky's mother Marcia Lewis and Clinton advisor Huma Abedin. Miller's play first premiered at Miami New Drama in 2022. OffBook’s production will mark the North Jersey regional premiere.

South Street Players presents "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)". (SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- South Street Players presents "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)" in Wesley Hall across two weekends from May 3-12, 2024. This play parodies the plays of William Shakespeare with all of them being performed in comically shortened or merged form by only three actors. The production is produced and directed by SSP Board Member Rob Sullivan.

Chatham Community Players presents "Nine". (CHATHAM, NJ) -- The Chatham Community Players concludes its 102nd Season with the critically acclaimed and modern musical classic, Nine with music & lyrics by Maury Yeston and book by Arthur Kopit from May 3-18, 2024 at The Chatham Playhouse (23 North Passaic Ave) in Chatham. Based on iconic film director Federico Fellini's legendary work "8 1/2", this spectacular musical adaptation features one man and the dozens of women in his life. Celebrated but impetuous film director, Guido Contini, succumbing to the pressures of filming his latest film epic, suffers a midlife crisis.

WHATCO in association with the Hackensack Performing Arts Center announce open auditions for Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night". (WEST HUDSON, NJ) -- The West Hudson Arts & Theater Company (WHATCo) and Teaneck New Theater, in association with The Hackensack Performing Arts Center have announced open auditions for their Shakespeare productions scheduled for this summer.

The Levoy Theatre presents Matilda, the Musical JR. (MILLVILLE, NJ) -- The Levoy Theatre presents 4 performances of Roald Dahl's Matilda, the Musical Jr from May 10-12, 2024. Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.

Skyline Theatre Company presents a One Night Performance of "Baby". (BLOOMFIELD, NJ) -- Skyline Theatre Company, a 21-year-old professional theatre company now calling Essex County its home, presents a special one-performance-only concert presentation of BABY, the Tony Award nominated Broadway musical, on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 7:00pm.

Asbury Park Theater Company presents "The Mountaintop". (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- Asbury Park Theater Company presents The Mountaintop by Katori Hall from May 10-19, 2024 at the Jersey Shore Arts Center. The Mountaintop examines Martin Luther King Jr.'s last night on earth, set entirely in Room 306 of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN. The play is Hall's fictional reimagining of what may have happened in that motel room on the night before MLK's assassination.

Red Bank Theatre for Young Audiences presents Enchanted Cabaret & Sing-Along. (RED BANK, NJ) -- Red Bank Theatre for Young Audiences presents Enchanted Cabaret & Sing-Along on Friday, May 10th at 7:00pm and Saturday, May 11th at 11:00am & 2:00pm. Moana, Rapunzel, Ariel, Hercules, Megara, Anastasia, Mrs. Potts, Dorothy, Hercules, Sally & Olaf will all be at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank (247 Broad Street).

West Windsor Arts presents Jackie Schiffer's Broadway Boombox. Art House Productions presents 2024 INKubator New Play Festival. (JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Productions presents the 2024 INKubator New Play Festival from May 13-21. This year's playwrights are Upasna Barath, Amanda Sage Comerford, Leo Layla Díaz, Neil Levi, Dave Osmundsen, and Marcus Scott. Audiences who attend the festival will have the opportunity to participate in conversations with the writers, directors, and actors following each performance. All readings are free to attend, but advanced registration is required.

Tuesday, May 7 - Revisit the Hindenburg's Final Flight at the Ocean County Library Long Beach Island Branch. (SURF CITY, NJ) -- Airships appeared to be the future of passenger aviation until May 6, 1937, when the Hindenburg crashed in a stunning fireball at New Jersey's Naval Air Station Lakehurst. Thursday, May 9 - Clinton Hill Community Action Presents "If It Had Not Been For Mother". Saturday, May 11 - Monmouth County Park System Hosts 2024 Creative Arts Festival. (LINCROFT, NJ) -- The Monmouth County Park System is hosting its annual Creative Arts Festival on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Thompson Park (805 Newman Springs Road) in Lincroft. This celebration of the arts features more than 45 specially selected artists in a variety of mediums such as pottery, painting, jewelry, and more. The event encompasses the grounds of the Creative Arts Center and two beautiful historic barns. This family-friendly festival runs from 10:00am to 4:00pm and also includes live music, engaging art demonstrations and children’s art-based activities.

Saturday, May 11 - Hot Rods and Harleys to take place in Rahway. (RAHWAY, NJ) -- Mayor Raymond Giacobbe, Rahway City Council, and U4 Guys are proud to present Hot Rods and Harleys on Saturday, May 11, 2024. Back for its 21st year, Hot Rods and Harleys invite residents to enjoy a day filled with classic cars, hot rods, custom bikes, live music street vendors, food trucks, and more. As always, the event is free to the public, but there is a $20 day-of car or bike registration fee.
