Kean Department of Theatre presents "References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot"

(UNION, NJ) -- The Kean Department of Theatre presents References to Salvador Dalí Make Me Hot from October 9-17, 2026 in the Bauer Boucher Theatre Center. This is an Obie Award-winning surrealist play by José Rivera that follows Gabriela, a lonely housewife in Barstow, California, awaiting her soldier-husband Benito’s return from the Gulf War in 1991.

In the poetic fantasy world she creates as she drifts through her days in the Mojave desert, her housecat and a local coyote strike up a romance, while the celestial man-in-the-moon and her very real teenage neighbor Martín vie for her affection.

The production is directed by Joshua Feliciano-Sanchez Moser.

Performances take place Friday, October 9 at 7:30pm; Saturday, October 10 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm; Sunday, October 11 at 2:00pm; Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30pm; Thursday, October 15 at 5:30pm; Friday, October 16 at 10:00am & 7:30pm; and Saturday, October 17 at 2:00pm & 7:30pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The theater is located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, New Jersey.

Content Advisory: Strong language, Mature themes (War, Infidelity, Toxic Masculinity, PTSD), Staged Intimacy (Kissing and Sexual Contact). Age Recommendation: High school and up. Not appropriate for children. Effects Warning: The play will use pulsing and blinking lights, gunshot sound effects, and haze.
