(HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Mile Square Theatre presents a New Play Reading Series from October 5-14, 2026. Plays include Neither Snow Nor Rain by Erin Mallon; The Halal Brothers by Alaudin Ullah; and Sunshine Madness by Lori Fischer. Admission is free, but tickets are required.
October 5 at 7:00pm - Neither Snow Nor Rain by Erin Mallon. A solitary, independent woman fosters an unlikely friendship with her mailman, despite her initial distrust of him. It’s clear that they both enjoy each other’s company, but as his true colors are revealed over the span of a year, we realize the woman was right — this man’s intentions are not at all what they first seemed.
A prequel to Erin Mallon’s The Net Will Appear (MST 2017, later Off-Broadway at 59E59). Mile Square Theatre is excited to bring Erin back and Richard Masur to reprise his role as Bernard. Don’t worry, no need to have seen the original to enjoy this one.
October 10 at 7:00pm - The Halal Brothers by Alaudin Ullah; directed by Chris McKinney. On February 21, 1965, two Bengali brothers have just opened a Halal butcher shop in Harlem. They have been hired to cater an event at the Audubon Ballroom, where the keynote speaker will be rising star of the Civil Rights Movement, Malcolm X.
Inspired by the documentary In Search of Bengali Harlem, this is a layered portrait of Harlem in the 1960s — the cultural clashes and harmonies between its residents, and the push-pull immigrants feel between their new lives and old lives — all against the backdrop of this pivotal day in Harlem and American history.
October 14 at 7:00pm - Sunshine Madness by Lori Fischer; directed by Mikaela Kafka. While her daughter fights for her inheritance with her mom’s caregiver, the very Irish spirit of a recently deceased, crappy mother, hangs around unable to transition until she makes things right with her daughter.

Founded in 2003 by Chris O'Connor, Mile Square Theatre has contributed to the arts and cultural landscape in Hudson County and greater NJ since its inception. In 2015, they moved into their current space, a 120-seat theatre with an rehearsal studio at 1400 Clinton Street. In 2018, they added “The Annex” at 420 14th Street which functions as an additional rehearsal and performance studio. They are a 501c3 non-profit institution.
Since bringing home the Gold and Silver medals at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Laurie Hernandez has gone on to win the coveted Mirror Ball trophy on “Dancing with the Stars” Season 23 and her first book titled “I Got This: To Gold and Beyond” chronicling her journey thus far was published in 2017, hitting the New York Times Best Sellers list. In 2018, she released a children’s picture book “She’s Got This,” also a New York Times Best Seller, while serving as a Literary Champion to promote readership as a path to leadership, and Mattel created Laurie Hernandez “Shero” Barbie to honor her.
