Here are previews of plays taking place from May 5-11, 2026 including a look at productions currently being presented and those coming soon. George Street Playhouse presents "My Lord, What a Night" by Deborah Brevoort  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for My Lord, What a Night written by Deborah Brevoort (Blue Moon Over Memphis) and directed by Sheldon Epps (Play On!). It's about a remarkable friendship and a night in New Jersey that changed history. Performances run from April 28 through May 17, 2026.

CDC Theatre to Close Out Season with "Fiddler On The Roof"  (CRANFORD, NJ) — The final production of the 107th season at CDC Theatre in Cranford is the wonderful musical Fiddler On The Roof. The multi-award-winning tale of Tevye the Dairyman and his family's struggles in a changing Russia is a true musical theatre "tradition." Performances run weekends from May 1-17, 2026.

The Growing Stage presents "Nate The Great"  (NETCONG, NJ) -- The Growing Stage: The Children's Theatre of New Jersey is thrilled to present Nate The Great. Based on the book by Marjorie Sharmat with book & lyrics by John Maclay and music & lyrics by Brett Ryback, this vibrant production runs weekends from May 1-17, 2026. In this musical, the world's greatest boy detective awakes, hoping that this day will bring a new case. He gets a call from his good friend Annie alerting him that her new painting of her dog Fang is missing!

McCarter Theatre Center presents "Mrs. Christie" - a new comedy-mystery by Heidi Armbruster  (PRINCETON, NJ) -- McCarter Theatre Center presents Mrs. Christie, a witty new comedy-mystery by Heidi Armbruster, from May 6–31, 2026. The production is directed by BOLD Associate Artistic Director Donya K. Washington in her McCarter directorial debut.

Vivid Stage presents Meet the Artist New Play Readings throughout May  (SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center, will present its annual Meet the Artist new play reading series on Wednesdays, May 6, 13, 20 and 27. This year includes works by Brad Goren-Wilson, Vince Gatton, Erin Mallon, and Elizabeth Irwin. All readings will take place at the Summit Community Center (100 Morris Ave) at 7:00pm.

George Street Playhouse's 2026 Gala Benefit will honor Emily Mann with the Arthur Laurents Award for Distinguished Artistic Achievement  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- George Street Playhouse's 2026 Gala Benefit on Wednesday, May 6th will honor Emily Mann, playwright and former Artistic Director of McCarter Theatre Center, with the Arthur Laurents Award for Distinguished Artistic Achievement. This distinguished honor has only been awarded twice before in George Street Playhouse's over 50-year history.

Algonquin Arts Theatre presents "Pippin"  (MANASQUAN, NJ) -- Algonquin Arts Theatre is proud to announce the full cast for its upcoming production of Pippin, running May 8–17, 2026. From Stephen Schwartz, the renowned creator of Wicked, comes a dazzling and thought-provoking musical about a young man's journey to find purpose.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Meredith Willson's The Music Man  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Meredith Willson's The Music Man for four performances from May 8-10, 2026. There's trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian.

Hunterdon Hills Playhouse presents "Some Enchanted Evening"  (HAMPTON, NJ) -- Hunterdon Hills Playhouse presents Some Enchanted Evening from April 7 through May 16, 2026. This is a celebration of songs that have become a part of our lives. We sing them in the shower and we sing them to entertain and amuse.

Luna Stage to Present the World Premiere of "& Sons"  (WEST ORANGE, NJ) -- Luna Stage will present the World Premiere of & Sons written by Jack Angelo Cummings and directed by Matt Monaco, running April 16 through May 10, 2026. Winner of the Kirk Prize for Best New Play, this is a sharply funny, emotionally hard-hitting portrait of brotherhood, labor, and the ways men learn—often badly—to love one another.

The Road Company presents "Jesus Christ Superstar"  (WILLIAMSTOWN, NJ) -- The Road Company presents Jesus Christ Superstar from across three weekends from April 23 to May 9, 2026. A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for decades, this timeless musical is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events, but seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. It features Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lyrics by Tim Rice.

The Broadway Theatre of Pitman presents "A Bronx Tale, The Musical"  (PITMAN, NJ) -- The Broadway Theatre of Pitman presents A Bronx Tale, The Musical, across three weekends from April 24 to May 17, 2026. Step into the vibrant streets of the 1960s Bronx in this gripping musical about a young man torn between the steady guidance of his hardworking father and the alluring power of a local mob boss.

Music Mountain Theatre presents "Present Laughter"  (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) — You’re invited into a world of wit, glamour, and delightful chaos as the curtain rises on Present Laughter at Music Mountain Theatre (MMT). Running from April 24 through May 10, 2026, this sophisticated comedy by legendary playwright Noël Coward brings one of theatre’s most charming and complicated leading men to life.

The Summit Playhouse presents "My Fair Lady"  (SUMMIT, NJ) -- The Summit Playhouse presents My Fair Lady weekends from April 25 through May 10, 2026. It's the tale of a cockney flower girl transformed into an elegant lady, featuring one of musical theatre's greatest scores.  It features a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.

New Jersey Play Lab to Host a Virtual Storyteller Studio Open House  New Jersey Play Lab is hosting two Virtual Open House sessions for prospective 2026-2027 Storyteller Studio Cohort participants! If you are an aspiring playwright or dramaturg, this is for you.

Theatre Horizon presents "Ain't Misbehavin'" - The Fats Waller Musical Show  (NORRISTOWN, PA) -- Theatre Horizon the award-winning professional theater nestled in Norristown's Arts Hill District, presents Ain't Misbehavin', The Fats Waller Musical Show, the Tony Award-winning production. The production is directed by Amina Robinson, a three-time Barrymore Award winner who returns to Theatre Horizon for the first time since winning for Outstanding Direction of a Musical for The Color Purple in 2018. Ain't Misbehavin' runs from April 29 through May 17, 2026.

Bridge Players Theatre Company presents "Seussical"  (BURLINGTON, NJ) -- Bridge Players Theatre Company presents Seussical across three weekends from May 1-16, 2026. Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza while weaving a story of friendship, loyalty, and love.

Masquerade Theatre presents "Company"  (RIVERSIDE, NJ) -- Masquerade Theatre presents Company across three weekends from May 1-16, 2026. Sondheim and Furth's game-changing musical is a sophisticated and honest look at modern adult relationships.

The Village Playbox presents "Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street"  (HADDON HEIGHTS, NJ) -- The Village Playbox presents Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street across three weekends from May 1-16, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church of Haddon Heights. It's a dark, witty and Tony Award-winning tale of love, murder and revenge set against the backdrop of 19th century London.

South Street Players presents Ken Ludwig's "A Comedy of Tenors"  (SPRING LAKE, NJ) -- South Street Players presents Ken Ludwig's A Comedy of Tenors across two weekends from May 1-9, 2026. Hitchcock Meets Hilarious: Bergen County Players presents "The 39 Steps"  (ORADELL, NJ) -- Fresh off being named the top live music or theater venue by 201 Magazine's "Best of Bergen" readers, Bergen County Players (BCP) invites audiences to brace themselves for a whirlwind of espionage and outrageous comedy with the Tony Award-winning The 39 Steps, which runs weekends from May 2-31, 2026. Directed by BCP life member Steve Bell, this breakneck adaptation of Alfred Hitchcock's 1935 film classic blends film noir suspense with Monty Python-style absurdity.

Chester Theatre Group presents "The Skin of Our Teeth" by Thornton Wilder  (CHESTER, NJ) -- Chester Theatre Group presents The Skin of Our Teeth by Thornton Wilder across three weekends from May 2-17, 2026. Combining farce, burlesque and satire, Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning play depicts an Everyman family as it narrowly escapes one end-of-the-world disaster after another, from the Ice Age to flood to war.

Westfield Community Players presents "The Nerd" by Larry Shue  (WESTFIELD, NJ) -- Westfield Community Players presents The Nerd by Larry Shue across three weekends from May 2-16, 2026. The production is directed by Christopher Peterson. Aspiring young architect Willum Cubbert, in Terre Haute, Indiana, has often told his friends about the debt he owes to Rick Steadman, a fellow ex-GI whom he has never met but who saved his life after he was seriously wounded in Vietnam.

Vanguard Theater presents Illuminating New Voices  (MONTCLAIR, NJ) -- Vanguard Theater presents Illuminating New Voices across two weekends from May 2-9, 2026. This is a curated weekend of new work presentations. The selected pieces give artists the opportunity to hear their work aloud and engage in a supportive development-focused environment.

Art House Productions presents the 8th Annual INKubator New Play Festival  (JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Art House Productions presents the 2026 INKubator New Play Festival from May 4-6 & May 11-13, 2026. This year's playwrights are Oded Gross, Erin Mallon, Kyle Mazer, Ferdinand Moscat, Allyson Dwyer, and Cristina Luzárraga. Audiences who attend the festival will have the opportunity to participate in conversations with the writers, directors, and actors following each performance. All readings are free to attend, but advanced registration is required at www.arthouseproductions.org.

ShowKids Invitational Theatre presents "Disney's Frozen, The Broadway Musical"  (GLEN GARDNER, NJ) -- ShowKids Invitational Theatre (SKIT) presents Disney's Frozen, The Broadway Musical, from May 2-10, 2026 in the Voorhees High School Auditorium. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature film, this musical includes all the film's beloved songs by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, along with new music written exclusively for the stage.

Ritz Theatre Company presents "Porgy and Bess"  (HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- The Ritz Theatre Company presents Porgy and Bess from May 1-24, 2026. Set in the 1930s in Catfish Row, a Black community in Charleston, South Carolina,the musical tells the story of Porgy, a kind but disabled beggar, and Bess, a woman trying to escape her violent lover Crown and the seductive pull of drugs offered by Sportin' Life. The production is directed by Darryl Thompson, Jr.

Burlington County Footlighters presents "The Pirates of Penzance"  (CINNAMINSON, NJ) -- Burlington County Footlighters presents The Pirates of Penzance across three weekends from May 1-16, 2026. This is a swashbuckling operetta full of hilarity, hijinks, and heart. It features Book and Lyrics by William Gilbert; Music by Arthur Sullivan.

Haddonfield Plays and Players presents "Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill: The Musical"  (HADDONFIELD, NJ) -- Haddonfield Plays and Players presents "Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill: The Musical" from May 8-23, 2026. This exhilarating musical was inspired by the themes and raw emotions laid bare in Alanis Morissette's seminal album of the same name.

The Players Guild of Leonia presents "Jesus Christ Superstar"  (LEONIA, NJ) -- The Players Guild of Leonia presents Jesus Christ Superstar across three weekends from May 8-24, 2026. Featuring Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Lyrics by Tim Rice, this is a rock opera based on the last week of Jesus’ life, as seen through the eyes of Judas Iscariot.

Blue Moon Theatre presents "Glengarry Glen Ross" by David Mamet  (WOODSTOWN, NJ) -- Blue Moon Theatre presents Glengarry Glen Ross by David Mamet across two weekends from May 8-17, 2026. Get ready for a high-octane evening of desperation, greed, and the cutthroat pursuit of the American Dream.

Villagers Theatre presents "On Time" by Wesley Cappiello  (SOMERSET, NJ) -- Villagers Theatre presents On Time by Wesley Cappiello across two weekends from May 8-17, 2026. In this gay epic spanning 160 years, the play follows five couples, weaving together moments of love, heartbreak, and survival across centuries.

Class Act Performing Arts Studio presents "Wizard of Oz" at SOPAC  (SOUTH ORANGE, NJ) -- Class Act Performing Arts Studio presents Wizard of Oz at South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) from May 8-10, 2026. We're off to see the wizard! Follow the yellow brick road to the SOPAC stage for a delightful adaptation of L. Frank Baum's beloved tale, featuring the iconic musical score from the classic MGM film.

South Camden Theatre Company presents "Chicken & Biscuits" by Douglas Lyons  (CAMDEN, NJ) -- South Camden Theatre Company presents Chicken & Biscuits by Douglas Lyons across three weekends from May 8-24, 2026. This is a story that explores love, family, and the families we choose, reminding us all of the resilience and unity at the heart of our community.

Classic American Tales celebrates Louisa May Alcott, Mark Twain, Paul Robeson, and the American Revolution in May  (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- In May alone, Classic American Tales performs on a farm, in two different libraries, and at historic Peachfield.

bergenPAC's Performing Arts School to Hold Auditions for "Annie"  (ENGLEWOOD, NJ) -- This summer, bergenPAC's Performing Arts School will light up the Taub Stage with the beloved Broadway classic Annie, running July 31 through August 2, 2026. Auditions for the production will be held on Wednesday, May 13th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. Digital audition submissions will also be accepted now through May 13th. Callbacks will be on May 20th from 4:00pm to 9:00pm.

Stage Players presents "Alice By Heart"  (HADDONFIELD, NJ) -- Stage Players (ages 13-17) at Haddonfield Plays and Players presents Alice By Heart from May 14-16, 2026 at Haddonfield Methodist Church. From the Tony® and Grammy® award-winning creators of Spring Awakening, Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik, and co-written by Jessie Nelson (Waitress), Alice by Heart is a touching musical inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

The Maplewood Strollers presents "Much Ado About Nothing"  (MAPLEWOOD, NJ) -- The Maplewood Strollers presents Much Ado About Nothing across two weekends from May 15-24, 2026. Wit flies, sparks ignite, and love is anything but simple in this classic by William Shakespeare.

The Barn Theatre presents Monty Python's "Spamalot"  (MONTVILLE, NJ) -- The Barn Theatre presents Monty Python's Spamalot weekends from May 15 through June 6, 2026. King Arthur's legendary quest for the Holy Grail gets a hilarious twist in this uproarious musical, lovingly ripped from the 1975 classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

The Levoy Theatre presents "Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Musical"  (MILLVILLE, NJ) -- The Levoy Theatre presents Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Musical from May 15-17, 2026. Based on the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" Book Series by Jeff Kinney and the 20th Century Studios Films, the musical contains a Book by Kevin del Aguila; Music and Lyrics by Michael Mahler and Alan Schmuckler.

Music Mountain Theatre presents "Disaster!"  (LAMBERTVILLE, NJ) -- Music Mountain Theatre presents Disaster! weekends from May 15 through June 7, 2026. Earthquakes, tidal waves, infernos and the unforgettable songs of the '70s take center stage in Broadway’s side-splitting homage to classic disaster films.

First Avenue Playhouse presents "Old Love"  (ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ) -- First Avenue Playhouse presents Old Love by Norm Foster across three weekends from May 15-30, 2026. This love story spans three decades with half a dozen meetings between Bud, a salesman, and Molly, his boss's wife.

American Theater Group presents "The Unwitting Magician"  (UNION, NJ) -- American Theater Group (ATG) will once again present The Unwitting Magician, a special work in development by Jeremy Dobrish, May 16-17, 2026 at the DMK Black Box Theater at the Union Arts Center. The piece was successfully presented last December as part of ATG's Free Monday Night Play Reading Series.

The Theater Project presents a Staged Reading of "House Rules" by Jack McGrath on May 16th  (CRANFORD, NJ) -- The Theater Project's 2026 New Play Readings series will present a staged reading of Jack McGrath's House Rules on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at Cranford Community Center's 110-seat theater. The play tells the story of Bobby Ray – a man who has walked across America to return "home" to try and avert a family tragedy. The problem is that the family he returns to refuses to recognize him, and his homecoming has come 10 years too late.

Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents "Private Lives"  (MADISON, NJ) -- The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey presents Private Lives by Noël Coward from May 16 to June 7, 2026 in the F.M. Kirby Shakespeare Theatre. A razor-sharp comedy of manners, Private Lives crackles with Coward's signature wit and elegance.

Crossroads Theatre Company presents "Sizwe Banzi Is Dead"  (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- Crossroads Theatre Company presents Sizwe Bansi Is Dead from May 19 - June 14, 2026 at the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center. This is a powerful, funny, and deeply moving story about identity, survival, and the extraordinary ingenuity of ordinary people navigating an unjust system.

Asbury Park Theater Company presents Thornton Wilder's "Our Town"  (OCEAN GROVE, NJ) -- The Asbury Park Theater Company presents Thornton Wilder's Our Town across two weekends from May 21-31, 2026 at the Jersey Shore Arts Center. Described by Edward Albee as "the greatest American play ever written"- it is one of the defining plays of American theater. The production is directed by Bailey Dumlao.

Middletown Arts Center and Dunbar Repertory Company presents "Seven Guitars" by August Wilson  (MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center, in conjunction with Dunbar Repertory Company, presents a special production of Seven Guitars, directed by Mark Antonio Henderson, across two weekends from May 23–31, 2026. The play by August Wilson follows a blues musician chasing redemption and a second chance as love, ambition, and fate collide in powerful portrait of dreams deferred.

Bear Tavern Project and the 2026 Tomato Patch Jr Students present "Cosmic Campfire Chronicles"  (WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- Bear Tavern Project and the 2026 Tomato Patch Jr Students present Cosmic Campfire Chronicles across two weekends from May 23-31, 2026 at the Kelsey Theatre. It takes place one quiet night deep in the forest, a group of children gathers around a flickering campfire, swapping ghost stories under a sky ablaze with stars. Suddenly, the stars begin to move.
