Bergen County Players Announces Interactive Scavenger Hunt: Take "The 39 Steps" Through Oradell

Join the Search for Richard Hannay in Town-Wide Mystery For Chance To Win Free Tickets

originally published: 04/24/2026

(ORADELL, NJ) -- Grab your trench coats and magnifying glasses! Bergen County Players (BCP) has announced an interactive community scavenger hunt running from Thursday, April 30 through Sunday, May 3, 2026.

In celebration of BCP’s upcoming production of the hit comedy thriller The 39 Steps, 39 numbered silhouettes of the show’s dashing hero, Richard Hannay, will be hidden at secret locations throughout the Borough of Oradell. Residents and visitors are invited to step into the shoes of a detective to track down the elusive fugitives for a chance to win exclusive prizes.

"We are so excited to bring the suspense and fun of The 39 Steps off the stage and onto the streets of Oradell," said President Alyson Cohn. "It’s a fantastic way for families to explore our beautiful borough while supporting local community theater."

How to Play: The mystery begins at Stop #1: The Little Firehouse Theatre (298 Kinderkamack Road, Oradell). Participants can pick up their official clue sheets at the theater starting April 30 to begin their journey through the borough. To qualify for prizes, hunters must take a "selfie" with the Hannay cutouts they discover (and tag it with both #BCPTHE39STEPS and #ORADELLUNDERCOVER).

The winners and 2026-2027 season lineup will be officially announced during BCP’s Annual Open House on Saturday, May 16. The Open House is free to the public and offers a behind-the-scenes look at the theater’s operations.
