LoMotion Live presents a reading of "Black Friday" to Benefit Elks Army of Hope
 

(BOONTON, NJ) -- LoMotion Live presents a reading of Black Friday on Sunday November 12 at The Parsippany Arts Center in Boonton. Proceeds from this performance donated to Elks Army of Hope. Black Friday is a dark and gripping play by Michael O'Hagan that explores stereotypes, military experiences and an emotionally fraught relationships between a young, impulsive wiseass Airman Brendan Donohue, and his senior ranking female teammate, Staff Sgt. Shannon Hoffman, at a remote military checkpoint in Iraq. The reading begins at 3:00pm.

 



The Ritz Theatre Company presents "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" by August Wilson
 

(HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ) -- The Ritz Theatre Company has an August Wilson masterwork on the docket this month, as the organization gets set to present the celebrated playwright's third chronological entry in his "American Century Cyle," the tour de force drama Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. Directed by Darryl Thompson Jr., the production runs at The Ritz from October 13-29, 2023.

 



Monmouth University's Center for the Arts presents Paul Mecurio's "Permission to Speak"
 

(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Monmouth University's Center for the Arts has announced the arrival of Paul Mecurio's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show, Permission to Speak for a one-night-ONLY exclusive performance at the Pollak Theatre on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 8:00pm. State Theatre presents Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive
 

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents Mandy Patinkin in Concert: Being Alive on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 8:00pm. The program includes a collection of many of Patinkin's favorite Broadway and classic American tunes—from Irving Berlin to Stephen Sondheim, and from Cole Porter to Harry Chapin. Tickets range from $29-$99.

 



Ferocious Designs releases "Peace of Mind"
 

Ferocious Designs, the music project of central New Jersey-based songwriter Brian Kelley, has released a single edit of "Peace of Mind," which is available now for streaming and download at FerociousDesigns.com. An accompanying music video has also been released.

 



Perkins House Concert Series presents the Alex Hiele Paris Jazz Combo
 

(MOORESTOWN, NJ) -- Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown continues their Perkins House Concerts series with a performance by the Alex Hiele Paris Jazz Combo on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 8:00pm. The series runs on the second Friday of each month through April 2024. For this performance, audiences will travel back in time and soak up the sounds of a Paris jazz club in the 1950s.

 



Mirrors On The Moon releases Debut EP
 

New Jersey band Mirrors On The Moon has released their debut EP Whiskey & Wine written and produced by frontman Donny Dykowsky. The Whiskey & Wine EP is available on all streaming platforms.

 



Westminster Conservatory at Nassau presents music for clarinet and piano on October 19th
 

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Westminster Conservatory at Nassau will continue with a recital of music for clarinet and piano on Thursday, October 19 at 12:15pm. The performers – Kenneth Ellison, clarinet; Phyllis Lehrer, piano – are members of the teaching faculty of Westminster Conservatory of Music. The recital will take place in the Niles Chapel of Nassau Presbyterian Church (61 Nassau Street) in Princeton. It is open to the public free of charge.

Seaside Sinatra Event Celebrates the Musical Legacy of Arranger Nelson Riddle
 

(AVON, NJ) -- The brilliance and musical genius of the iconic arranger, Nelson Riddle, will be the main focus and topic of discussion at the "Swingin Sinatra-Riddle Event", presented by Karen Morris of Sand Castle Communications. Although Nelson Riddle passed away thirty-eight years ago, on October 6, 1985, his music lives on, spanning generations, as he remains a prominent influencer in the music and recording industry.

Fall 2023 New Jersey Film Festival Winners Announced!
 

Fall 2023 New Jersey Film Festival Winners    ​​​​​​​All the works that were part of the Fall 2023 New Jersey Film Festival Competition were selected by a panel of judges including media professionals, journalists, students, and academics. These judges selected the 19 finalists which were publicly screened at our Festival. The finalists were selected from 403 works submitted by filmmakers from around the world. In addition, the judges chose the Prize Winners in conjunction with the Festival Director.

 



Teaneck International Film Festival to Screen "The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks"
 

(TEANECK, NJ) -- On Friday, November 10, 2023, the Teaneck International Film Festival will screen The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks at Teaneck Cinemas (503 Cedar Lane). Rosa Parks was so much more than the woman who refused to move to the back of the bus. This 96-minute film, directed by Johanna Hamilton and Yoruba Richen, delves deep into Ms. Parks' historic role in the Montgomery bus boycott and the Civil Rights Movement. The screening takes place at 7:30pm.

 



NY Premiere for "Perfectly Good Moment" - Film Made By Westfield HS Alumni
 

(NEW YORK, NY) -- On Saturday, October 14th, Westfield High School alumni Julian Seltzer ('10) and Emily Bailey ('12) will walk the red carpet with their fellow cast and crew at the Chelsea Film Festival for the NYC Premiere of the award-winning feature film Perfectly Good Moment. Seltzer co-wrote the story for this twisty revenge drama and produced the feature, while Bailey served as the film's colorist.

 



2023 Teaneck International Film Festival to Open with Screening of "Invisible Beauty"
 

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The 18th Teaneck International Film Festival begins Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Teaneck Cinemas, 503 Cedar Lane – when, once again, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. Bergen / Passaic Chapter presents the opening film: Invisible Beauty. The documentary is about fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison, a pioneering Black model, modeling agent, and activist, who has had, and continues to have, a major impact on the fashion industry – in front of the camera and behind the scenes. The screening begins at 7:30pm.

 



2023 Rutgers Jewish Film Festival Preview
 

(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) --The Rutgers Jewish Film Festival returns to in-theater screenings with fifteen award-winning films from Israel, Poland, Ukraine, Germany, the United States, and France. Running October 26 through November 12, the festival will present mid-Atlantic and New Jersey premieres, as well as discussions with filmmakers, actors, scholars, and other special guests. Screenings will be held in person at the Regal Cinema, North Brunswick, and the Rutgers Business School in Piscataway. Four films will be available in the virtual cinema.

Asbury Park, NJ, a modest-sized, historic city of sixteen thousand with a rich tapestry of history, "punches above its weight" artistically and culturally. Bergen County's Art in the Park Show and Concert to Take Place October 14th
 

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Bergen County Board of Commissioners invite the public to attend the 59th Annual Bergen County Art in the Park Show and Concert on Saturday, October 14 from 11:00am to 3:30pm at Van Saun County Park in Paramus, N.J. It will be held in Lot 4, area F. The rain date is Sunday, October 15. More than 100 visual artists will be featured in the exhibition and sale, representing a wide scope of artistic diversity within Bergen County.

(UNION, NJ) -- An art auction benefiting Carolyn Dorfman Dance gives supporters a new way to show their love for the Union County-based dance company. Barrels O' Art on Display in the City of Hackensack
 

(HACKENSACK, NJ) -- The Northern New Jersey Community Foundation- ArtsBergen (NNJCF) celebrates National Arts and Humanities Month throughout October. During the month, the NNJCF invites the public to see the "Barrels O'Art" exhibit, a free display of colorful, beautifully painted rain barrels in Carver Park in the City of Hackensack. The temporary art installation of rain barrels will be on display at Carver Park, 302 2nd Street in Hackensack, through November 7, 2023. The rain barrels beautify the flood-prone neighborhood and educate the public about flooding.

Morven Museum & Garden Awarded $647,300 in Grant Funding from New Jersey Historic Trust
 

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- Morven Museum & Garden has been awarded $647,300 from The New Jersey Historic Trust, an affiliate of the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA), from the Preserve New Jersey Historic Preservation Fund to save and promote historic sites throughout the state. Morven was a part of seventy-one preservation planning, municipal, county, and regional planning, heritage tourism, and capital projects included in this year’s list of recommendations.
