(TEANECK, NJ) -- On Friday, November 10, 2023, the Teaneck International Film Festival will screen The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks at Teaneck Cinemas (503 Cedar Lane). Rosa Parks was so much more than the woman who refused to move to the back of the bus. This 96-minute film, directed by Johanna Hamilton and Yoruba Richen, delves deep into Ms. Parks’ historic role in the Montgomery bus boycott and the Civil Rights Movement. The screening takes place at 7:30pm.
The eye-opening documentary is presented by the Bergen County, NJ Chapter of The Links, Inc. The film tells the fascinating story of her extensive organizing, radical politics, and lifelong dedication to activism. There are interviews with academics and activists, historical footage, and personal stories from Ms. Parks’ family. A talkback following the screening will include Teaneck’s own civil rights icon, Theodora Lacey.
The Teaneck International Film Festival takes place November 5-12, 2023. Tickets for festival screenings are available for purchase online.
Through an arrangement with the Teaneck Board of Education, this important film will also be shown to all Teaneck High School students, where it will be followed by a talkback and classroom discussions.
Check the festival website for information about the 2023 roster of virtual and live films, the Saturday night gala (minimum donation of $35 for a light buffet and feature film), sponsorship opportunities, venues, and more.
