It's very rare that a local musician can run his own label for more than 30 years, but that Mick Chorba has done so as the founder of two successful local bands is something I don't believe I've seen elsewhere in 43 years of writing about the New Jersey music scene and 35 years producing Makin Waves!

Monmouth University's Center for the Arts to Open Season with Willie Nile concert

(WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ) -- Monmouth University's Center for the Arts will open the season with a concert by Willie Nile and opening act James Maddock on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 8:00pm. The concert takes place in the Pollak Theatre.

Nothing screams Makin Waves like a triple album release party during New Jersey's inaugural North to Shore Festival. That's just what The Extensions, Fake Pockets, and The Foes of Fern are doing on June 16 on The Baronet Rooftop of The Asbury hotel. And all three albums by those local faves are June's Album of the Month.

PHOTOS from the Opening Weekend of 2023 Princeton Festival

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- The GRAMMY Award-winning trio Time for Three kicked off the Opening Weekend of the Princeton Symphony Orchestra's 2023 Princeton Festival on June 9th. This was followed by Aretha, A Tribute which featured Drama Desk Award nominee Capathia Jenkins singing many of the Queen of Soul's signature melodies with three-time GRAMMY-nominated artist Ryan Shaw. They were accompanied with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra, conducted by John Devlin. Internationally renowned pianist Christopher Taylor closed out the weekend with selections by composers of some of the world's most thrilling works for the piano: Sergei Rachmaninoff, Nikolai Kapustin, Sofia Gubaidulina, and Sergei Prokofiev.

NOTE: The Matilda in Concert performance originally scheduled for September 9 at State Theatre New Jersey (STNJ) has been postponed, due to the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) strike. Everyone involved in this production was very much looking forward to performing together this September and are disappointed to have to postpone but look forward to a performance on a future date once the strike has concluded.



The "Hope Rises" Concert: Chris Pinnella LIVE! at the Grunin Center

Music lovers stream into the Grunin Center auditorium in Toms River, NJ this Friday, June 2, 2023 evening for the third annual "Hope Rises" concert starring musician Chris Pinnella, former vocalist with The Trans-Siberian Orchestra. A fundraising event for Toms River's Hope Center, tonight's event features Pinnella performing the music of Billy Joel and Elton John.



The Princeton Festival Celebrates Juneteenth with Will Liverman and Free Community Events

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- On Monday, June 19 at Morven Museum & Garden, the Princeton Festival caps a day of events celebrating Juneteenth with a special performance by GRAMMY Award-winning, Metropolitan Opera star Will Liverman. The baritone performs art songs set to texts by Laurence Hope, Langston Hughes, and Louise C. Wallace, with music by Black composers, including Damien Sneed, Margaret Bonds, and Florence Price, with pianist Kevin Miller. The event begins at 7:00pm.
