by Gary Wien
published 2022-02-10

The Spring 2022 New Jersey Film Festival presents a mix of documentary, narrative, and experimental films on select Friday, Saturday, and Sundays through February 20. One of my favorite days in the spring festival is the Short Program #2 on Friday, February 11. It includes six films that showcase the human experience from around the world including ¡Llámame Chinita! by Stacy Chu; Threads of Desire by Bianca Di Marco; Covid Crusader: The Carla Brown Story by Randy Slavin; Joey Skaggs: Fish Condos by Judy Drosd and Joey Skaggs; Memory Builds the Monument by Isaac Yowman; and Just Like Water by Manos Triantafillakis. The six film package is available to rent from 12:00am on February 11 through midnight.

Joey Skaggs: Fish Condos screens at the Spring 2022 New Jersey Film Festival on February 11

published 2022-02-10

Joey Skaggs: Fish Condos is a short documentary film directed by Judy Drosd and Joey Skaggs [himself] and will be showing at the New Jersey Film Festival on Friday, February 11th, 2022. Fish Condos [to shorten the name for the purposes of our personal use] is the fifth film in an ongoing series titled Joey Skaggs: Satire and Art Activism, 1960s to the Present and Beyond. The series, which documents the art and life of [Mr.] Skaggs, seems to be a series of instructional videos for budding artists to learn how to master the art of creation.

Our Favorite Stories In Film - Destiny's Bridge 2016

New Jersey Stage published its 25,000th story in December 2021. As the site approached the milestone, we posed the question on social media as how we should celebrate.  One response was to highlight our favorite stories from over the years.  We liked this idea, but could not narrow things down to just 25 favorites so we will present a favorite each day from different genres.  Every Wednesday will feature a story about film.  This week's choice is a feature on the film Destiny's Bridge 2016 by Jack Ballo, which captures the raw, natural action and dialogue of 80 homeless people and their caregiver, Minister Steve Brigham, who all live in tents in an encampment in the woods of Lakewood NJ, known as Tent City.
