Jersey Nutcracker

Saturday, December 06, 2025 @ 1:00pm

Kean Stage - Wilkins Theatre
1000 Morris Avenue, Union, NJ 07083

Nimbus’ Jersey Nutcracker delights audiences young and old with a quirky and lovable story of two Jersey kids and their city adventure, filled with magic, battles with bullies and rats, stories of friendship, and exquisite dancing. Set to Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, Nimbus’ adaptation of The Nutcracker offers a thrilling, jazzy interpretation with a New Jersey twist.

Nimbus Dance performs Artistic Director Samuel Pott’s choreography against a dazzling backdrop of full-scale sets and animated projections of illustrated scenes, designed by Jersey City artists Laia Carbrera and Isabelle Duverger. With a delightful libretto co-written by Alysia Souder (The Institute for Music for Children)  and Samuel Pott (Nimbus Artistic Director), Jersey Nutcracker transports audiences through classic New Jersey landscapes – parks, bustling streets, back alleys, sewers, and back to City Hall, with surprises, cheer, and a message of hope and resilience along the way.

About Nimbus Dance

Nimbus Dance bridges the gap between world-class performance and community engagement by presenting work that challenges, speaks to, and elevates diverse audiences across the nation. Founded in 2005 by visionary Artistic Director Samuel Pott (former soloist with Martha Graham Dance Company), Nimbus stands at the forefront of excellence in the arts, civic engagement, and equitable impact. With a highly physical and visually engaging aesthetic, Nimbus’ international company of dancers “split the difference between traditionalism and modernism… A Nimbus Dance piece can pivot from ballet to Broadway to Beyoncé in a few beats.” (Tris McCall, Jersey City Times).

The company tours nationally impacting over 16,000 people annually; and maintains its home base at the Nimbus Arts Center, in Jersey City, and at a new second location in Summit, NJ. These sites support Nimbus Dance’ interdisciplinary creations, and house the School of Nimbus. Recent collaborations include work with the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood, the New Jersey Symphony at NJPAC, the Gordon Parks Foundation in The New Tide by Dawn Marie Bazemore, and the Bar Harbor Music Festival at the Acadia Dance Festival, which Nimbus produces.
