CDC Theatre presents "Head Over Heels"

Friday, October 27, 2023 @ 8:00pm

CDC Theatre
78 Winans Avenue, Cranford, NJ 07016

CDC Theatre in Cranford will open their 105th season with Head Over Heels from October 13-28, 2023. This is the bold new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Avenue Q and Spring Awakening. This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980's all-female rock band The Go-Go's, including the hit songs, "We Got the Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed," "Vacation," Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and "Mad About You."

Head Over Heels is an hilarious, exuberant celebration of love; the story of what happens when the royal court of Arcadia is threatened by the mystical Oracle of Delphi with the loss of its “Beat,” the divine power that ensures the kingdom’s prosperity. King Basilius, whose own title is at stake, forces the members of the royal family and court on a journey to the woods in an attempt to escape the Oracle’s seemingly unavoidable prophecies. Through a plot containing usurped kingship, unlikely lovers, and gender-fluid disguises, Head Over Heels preaches unconditional love and acceptance of yourself and everyone you know and uses some of the greatest pop rock hits of the late 20th century.

The talented cast is from throughout New Jersey with Sean Lynch-Littlejohn as Basilius, Tasha R. Williams as Gynecia, Karen Carratura as Pamela, Jordyn Sava as Philoclea, Jannette Fisher as Mopsa, Michael Kidney as Dametas, Zachary Mazouat as Musidorus and David Rivera Jr. as Pythio. Featured dancers and vocalists include Dominic Crisonino, Hannah Federman, Jonathan Guy, Tiffany Johnson, Lindsey Jordon-Tortajada, Brendan Lynch-Littlejohn, Sara Macvicar, Joscelyn Maldonado, Amanda Malone, Daraius Phillips, Becci Tank, Annick Vasquez and Stephen John Wasco Jr.

The production team includes Director: Sean E. Lough; Producer: Joe Leo; Stage Manager: Regina Novicy; Music Director: Hannah Elarmo; Choreography: Raven Dunbar-Abbott; Lighting Designer: Nik Marmo; and Costumes: Ashantah Kerr, Jannette Fisher.

Head Over Heels features songs by The Go-Go's; based upon The Arcadia by Sir Philip Sidney; conceived and original book by Jeff Whitty; and adapted by James Magruder.

The season will continue with a musical version of The Wizard of Oz in December, the farce The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 in March and The Producers in May.
