The story of vocalist, guitarist, and pianist Melody Gardot is remarkable; she’s persevered against abject adversity throughout her life. Blessed with a beautiful alto voice and grand insight as a songwriter, Gardot overcame a life-threatening bicycle accident early in her career.

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - Princeton Festival Weeknights I: June 13-15. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- There is plenty of music, improvisational hilarity, and romance filling the first round of weeknight performances at this year's 2023 Princeton Festival, which takes place June 9-25. Two concerts, one featuring The Claremont Trio, the other, the guitar and cello duo Boyd Meets Girl, bookend Broadway's Next Hit Musical, a musical comedy improv show.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Leslie Jones: Live. (RED BANK, NJ) -- Count Basie Center for the Arts presents Leslie Jones: Live on Friday, June 16th at 7:00pm. Leslie Jones, the three-time Emmy nominee and SNL alum can currently be seen starring in Taika Waititi’s pirate comedy series Our Flag Means Death for HBO Max. Jones will soon produce an Untitled Christmas Comedy for Lionsgate along with Ruben Fleischer and David Bernad along with Jackie Clarke set to write and Lenny Marcus producing. Jones is developing the holiday feature as a potential starring role.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - The Princeton Festival presents "The Barber of Seville" and Performance by Will Liverman. (PRINCETON, NJ) -- At the Princeton Festival on June 16, 18, and 20, opera newbies and aficionados alike will relish an all-new production of Gioachino Rossini's comedic showpiece The Barber of Seville. Rossini's opera, with libretto by Cesare Sterbini, premiered in Rome, Italy in 1816, and has since become one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide. An opera buffa masterpiece, The Barber of Seville offers superbly comical situations with elaborate disguises, outrageous bribery, close shaves, and captivating characters. Performances take place at the Festival’s outdoor performance pavilion on the grounds of Morven Museum & Garden.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Melissa Aldana Will Preview Music from Her Next Blue Note Album on June 16th at McCarter Theatre. When tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana leads a quartet on Friday, June 16 as part of the McCarter Theatre Jazz in June series, the program will be "a mix of some old things and some new things, and some things we didn't even record."

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - State Theatre New Jersey presents The Fab Faux. (NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- State Theatre New Jersey presents The Fab Faux on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 8:00pm. Performing an evening of The Beatles greatest hits, The Fab Faux will be joined on stage by The Hogshead Horns (with Blues Brothers, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Saturday Night Live band alums) and The Creme Tangerine Strings. Tickets range from $49-$99.

Monday, June 12, 2023 - RVCC Robeson Institute to Present Exhibition of Quilts Created by Incarcerated, Free Quilters. (BRANCHBURG, NJ) -- The Paul Robeson Institute for Ethics, Leadership, and Social Justice at Raritan Valley Community College will present "Stitching Time: The Social Justice Collaboration Quilts Project" from June 12 to July 23. The exhibition, which is open to the public, will be on view in the Art Gallery at RVCC's Branchburg campus.

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - "Soul Doctor" - the Broadway Movie-Musical to Screen at Movie Theaters Throughout NJ on June 13th. Fathom Events and Lisa Simone present the film Soul Doctor, the Broadway movie-musical about the 'rock star' Rabbi Shlomo Carlbach, and his relationship with the music and civil rights icon Dr. Nina Simone. The special nationwide screenings of Soul Doctor will take place in more than 600 select theaters, including movie theaters throughout New Jersey, for one night only on June 13, 2023.

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - Union County Offers Free Professional Development Webinar on for Non-Profit Organizations. The Union County Board of County Commissioners invites non-profit organizations to attend Building Community, a free professional development workshop on Tuesday, June 13 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm, presented on Zoom by Dr. Brea M. Heidelberg, Arts Management Consultant and Researcher; and Assistant Professor of Entertainment & Arts Management at Drexel University.

Tuesday, June 13, 2023 - New York Classical Theatre presents "Richard III" with All-Female, Gender-Fluid Cast. (NEW YORK, NY) -- New York Classical Theatre has announced an all-female, gender-fluid, and disability-forward cast for Shakespeare's Richard III. The production, directed by Burdman, will play in Central Park from June 13 to June 25; in Brooklyn Commons at Metrotech from June 27 to July 2; and in Carl Schurz Park from July 4 to July 9. All performances are free and open to the public.

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 - East Lynne Theater Company presents "A Tale of Two Cities, Cobbled Together by the Brothers Lovejoy". (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- East Lynne Theater Company's new Artistic Director Craig Fols will open his inaugural mainstage season with his own original adaptation of Charles Dickens' "A Tale of Two Cities" titled "A Tale of Two Cities, Cobbled Together by the Brothers Lovejoy". Fols' stage version of this world-renowned classic will make its world premiere on June 14 and will run Wednesdays to Saturdays through July 15.

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 - The GIG USA Hosts Kickoff Party For Asbury Park North To Shore Festival. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- "There are two words that best describe what is going to occur on Wednesday, June 14th at the Asbury Lanes," states Creator and Executive Producer of The GIG USA Nicholas Koontz, "and they are 'Event' and 'Party.' We are opening the Asbury Park leg of the North To Shore Festival and this event is not to be missed because start to finish, it will be one big, all night party!" Nick asserts.

Wednesday, June 14, 2023 - Words and voices from a city's history, at Crane's house. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- They were the storytellers, poets, journalists, and social crusaders — some famous, some all but forgotten — whose connections to Asbury Park made a deep impression on their words and their works. On the evening of Wednesday, June 14, their voices will be heard anew, when a collective of contemporary authors, activists and artists, representing numerous aspects and eras of city life, celebrates a community's rich written legacy while sharing selections from their own body of work.

Thursday, June 15, 2023 - An American in Provence's Jamie Beck to Appear in Ocean County Library's Virtual Author Talk Series. (TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Author-photographer Jamie Beck, whose extended hiatus in France produced the New York Times best-seller An American in Provence, will appear in the Ocean County Library's Virtual Author Talk series on Thursday, June 15, 2023. The event begins at 2:00pm.

Thursday, June 15, 2023 - 3rd Annual Hamilton Arts Festival to Take Place June 15–24. (PATERSON, NJ) -- The Paterson Performing Arts Development Council (PPADC) has announced the 2023 lineup for its annual Hamilton Arts Festival (June 15–24, 2023), a series of events including theatrical productions and film screenings.

Thursday, June 15, 2023 - Springsteen Archives and Transparent Gallery Present Warren Zanes Book Event. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University in collaboration with Transparent Clinch Gallery are presenting a book signing event with Warren Zanes on June 15, 2023 at the gallery. Zanes, author, musician, and professor, will be discussing his new book, Deliver Me from Nowhere: The Making of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, among other topics, with Danny Clinch.

Thursday, June 15, 2023 - Riverside Gallery Presents "Impasta" 2023 Group Exhibition. (HACKENSACK, NJ) -- Riverside Gallery presents a group exhibition, titled "Impasta," concerning the use of impasto, or thick paint, in painting. The exhibition runs from June 15-30, 2023, with an opening reception on Saturday, June 17th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The participating artists are Susan Carr, Jan Dickey, and MInseok Kang.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - The Newton Theatre presents An Evening with Shaun Cassidy. (NEWTON, NJ) -- The Newton Theatre presents An Evening with Shaun Cassidy on Friday, June 16, 2023. Shaun is an American writer, producer, actor and singer. Doors are at 7:00pm, showtime is 8:00pm.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Demi Lovato to Perform on Stone Pony Summer Stage as part of North to Shore Music Festival. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- North to Shore Music Festival presents vocal powerhouse Demi Lovato on the Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park on Friday, June 16th at 6:00pm.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Asbury Park Music Foundation Announces Two Free Shows on The Boardwalk (June 16-17). (ASBURY PARK, NJ) – The nonprofit Asbury Park Music Foundation (APMF) has announced two free shows on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17 in partnership with The Break and Low Dive, the boardwalk's newest tenants. The Break (formerly Langosta Lounge) and Low Dive (formerly APYC) have been magnets for live music, and the new era continues that tradition. These shows will celebrate the diversity of Asbury Park music past and present, while paving the way for young artists to continue personifying Asbury Park in the future.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - New Jersey Youth Symphony Joins Korea Blind Performance Group and Bella Music Foundation at Merkin Hall. (NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ) -- The New Jersey Youth Symphony (NJYS) will perform in the captivating concert "Darkness to Light: Hanbit Trio J," presented in collaboration by Korea Blind Performance Group and Bella Music Foundation on Friday, June 16 at 8:00pm at the Kaufman Music Center's Merkin Hall in New York City.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series presents Matt Nakoa with The Empty Pockets. (MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Award-winning songwriter Matt Nakoa will perform on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Folk Project Troubadour series in Morristown, NJ. Also on the bill is The Empty Pockets. Showtime is 7:30pm.

Friday, June 16, 2023 - Mile Square Theatre presents 19th Annual 7th Inning Stretch. (HOBOKEN, NJ) -- Mile Square Theatre presents the 19th Annual 7th Inning Stretch of June 16-17. Each year, seven playwrights write seven 10-minute plays involving baseball. The plays run the gambit from heartwarming to hysterical; realistic to absurd. Whatever they are, you'll enjoy a terrific lineup of short plays about the great American pastime. This year's event features world premiere short works by a roster of playwrights including: Tim Errickson, Charlene Jean, Michelle Tyrene Johnson, Cherise Kimoy, Tim J. Lord, Nandita Shenoy and SC Stowe.

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Central NJ's Only African American History Museum to Hold 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration. (SKILLMAN, NJ) -- The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM), Central New Jersey's only African American history museum sharing the history of Black Americans since the trans-Atlantic Slave trade, will hold its second annual Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 17, from 12:00pm to 4:00pm (rain or shine).

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Springsteen Archives Presents Hip Hop Program in Asbury Park during North To Shore Music Festival. (ASBURY PARK, NJ) -- The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University will present Hip Hop in the Round at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County on Saturday, June 17, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, as part of the statewide North to Shore festival.

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Axelrod PAC presents Jeremy Jordan and Ashley Spencer. (DEAL PARK, NJ) -- Broadway’s Jeremy Jordan, best known for his portrayal of Jack Kelly in Disney’s Newsies, will make his debut at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center in Deal Park on Saturday, June 17. Jordan will perform a concert along with his wife, Ashley Spencer (Grease, Rock of Ages). The couple married in 2012.  Showtime is 8:00pm.

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Ocean County Library to Mark Juneteenth with "When the Cavalry Came to Call". (JACKSON, NJ) -- In honor of Juneteenth, the Ocean County Library will present a live program by noted storyteller Michelle Washington Wilson, "When the Cavalry Came to Call." The presentations will take place at the OCL Jackson Branch on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00pm, and at the OCL Waretown Branch on Monday, June 19 at 4:00pm. Ms. Wilson will relate stories and poems that celebrate African American Emancipation and honor the sacrifices made to attain it.

Saturday, June 17, 2023 - Washington Borough's Sustainably Green Music & Arts Fest Kicks off Farmers Market Season on June 17th. (WASHINGTON, NJ) -- Washington Borough has been recognized as one of the greenest communities in New Jersey. In celebration of that designation, and as a kick off to its award-winning weekly farmers market, the Washington Business Improvement District and the Washington Borough Green Team are partnering up for the Annual Sustainably Green Music & Arts Fest on Saturday June 17, 2023 in Downtown Washington.

Sunday, June 18, 2023 - East Lynne Theater Company to Host Staged Reading of "Citizen James, or The Young Man Without a Country" to Honor Juneteenth. (CAPE MAY, NJ) -- East Lynne Theater Company (ELTC) will host its first-ever Juneteenth event – a staged reading, titled "Citizen James, or The Young Man Without a Country" -- to honor the national holiday. A one-man show about acclaimed novelist and civil rights activist James Baldwin, the performance is pay-what-you-wish and will take place on Sunday, June 18, followed by an ice cream social at Fine Fellows Creamery. The event begins at 6:00pm.
