Troubadour Acoustic Concert Series presents Matt Nakoa with The Empty Pockets

originally published: 05/25/2023

(MORRISTOWN, NJ) -- Award-winning songwriter Matt Nakoa (shown above) will perform on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the Folk Project Troubadour series in Morristown, NJ. Also on the bill is The Empty Pockets. Showtime is 7:30pm.

With a powerful voice and haunting words and music, Matt Nakoa is a modern troubadour who makes his home on the highways and concert stages of America, and appears regularly with folk music icon Tom Rush. With an electrifying stage presence, Nakoa delivers an unforgettable musical experience. He will be performing with the Empty Pockets, a band known for soulful, 70’s-inspired creations and distinctive vocals.

"This guy is the real deal. In all departments: songwriting, instrumental virtuosity, vocal chops, and stage charisma, Matt scores off the chart! You gotta see this man," said Troubadour Chair, Mike Agranoff.

The Empty Pockets is the high-powered high-energy duo of Josh Solomon & Erika Brett Solomon. With nifty guitar work and soaring harmonies, they fill the stage and fill the hall with enough music to be worthy of a 5-piece band. Chicago Tonight said, “They are the songs you blast with the windows down while cruising down Lake Shore on the first 70 degree spring day on your way to the Cubs game… Their catchy hooks may be mistaken for pop candy, but listen more closely and you’ll find there are equal parts of sweetness, wit and truth.”

Admission online: $10.50 / at the door $10. For more information and tickets online, click here. Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 21 Normandy Heights Road in Morristown, New Jersey.

The Folk Project is New Jersey’s leading acoustic music and dance organization. It is a community of over 400 music lovers, musicians and dancers. Their member volunteers have been showcasing acoustic and traditional music in North Jersey for over 40 years. They invite you to join their audiences, enjoy their shows, and become a part of their dynamic, nonprofit organization.

Project volunteers present more than 100 events annually, with a unique mix of homegrown and nationally acclaimed performers. They present music styles that go well beyond what you may consider traditional American folk music, including blues, swing, gospel, jazz, sea chantey, Irish, vaudeville, doo-wop, gypsy, jug band and rock ‘n’roll. Musicians come from as close as our local Jersey neighborhoods to as far away as Europe and China.

The Folk Project is also an artistic community that offers support, instruction and performance opportunities. Their performing members range from local beginners to full-time touring professionals. They provide multiple showcases for every level of talent and many ways to interact with other musicians.

Their concerts, dances, festivals, parties and member shows are a great way to participate in this very active and social community, centered on a love of music, dance and fun.
