ROCK ON! This Week's Sound Bites...9/15/16

By Danny Coleman

originally published: 09/15/2016

"Make Some Noise," is our first CD with Doug Aldrich and it's just kick in the teeth rock; from the first track to the last it just kicks ass," says lead singer John Corabi of Dead Daisies. "The record, the tour, it's all going great; the response from the crowds, the promoters, they've all been great too!"

Corabi took some time recently to discuss the band's formation, their unique name, music and more prior to a recent gig at New York City's Webster Hall.  "Our name? Well, that's interesting enough as it is. David Lowy started the band in 2012 but with a different singer and it was he who said something to the effect of, "I'll be pushing up Daisies if I don't slow down;""so it was how it came to be."

Corabi, as stated, is not the first but the current front man / lead vocalist and has a rich history of stops prior to settling in with the Daisies. Once having fronted bands such as Angora and Scream, he may be best known for assuming the role of Vince Neal's replacement in Motley Crue. "Honestly? You know how they say that being in a band is like being in a relationship and you go through relationships until you find "The One?" "Well I thought for sure that being in Motley Crue; that they were the one. We had just done a record deal and with the way those guys talked about Vince; I really thought that I'd be there for quite a while but it just didn't work out. I don't have any regrets, no regrets at all because I'm happy here; everything is and life is as it should be."

Besides Corabi and rhythm guitarist/founder Lowy, The Dead Daisies consist of lead guitarist Doug Aldrich, bassist Marco Mendoza and drummer Brian Tichy. A core of veteran musicians who bring not only individuality but experience and passion to the stage every time they set foot upon it. "We literally just got back last night from a show with KISS and we've got some more shows lined up with them," adding that opening for one of the most well known rock bands in the world opens up doors and creates some added incentive. "Doing shows like these are definitely momentum builders. We are hoping to build enough where we get to the point where we are headlining shows. We are really excited about what we are creating here and what the five of us can accomplish."

Aldrich, the newest member, comes to the band via Whitesnake and Dio and fellow Whitesnake alum Mendoza works very well with former Ozzy Osbourne drummer Tichy and founder Lowy to create a solid core which allows Corabi freedom to showcase his strong vocal talents. "We have a couple of different goals as a band," stated Corabi with laughter. "One, we want to sell one more record than "Thriller" and two, if that doesn't work out we've decided we're going to become peanut farmers and make peanut butter; it's a long story (laughs)!"

Since hitting the road in 2013, the band has produced several studio albums, an EP and opened for such classic rock luminaries as, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, Def Leopard, Judas Priest, Lynyrd Skynyrd and more. They have performed in Tel Aviv and Cuba and continue to break new ground and attract new fans with every city they embrace.  Corabi looks back fondly on these events and his career with an eye to the future and what he feels this group can accomplish. "Ya' know, I'm a blessed guy; I really am. there's probably a gazillion singers more talented than I and yet I somehow was fortunate enough to be in the right places at the right times. That's what it all comes down to really; timing. I have been lucky to be with some really great people and these guys; these guys are great. I look back over my career and being in the bands that I've been in, there has been something, some experience in each and every one of them that was unique, new or memorable. The things this band has done and in the short time I've been with them, what we have done is very satisfying and we feel that we can only get better; we look forward to what's ahead."

The band heads over to Japan, Mexico then Europe after a show at the famed Whisky-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. To keep up with their busy schedule or discover more about the Dead Daisies; please visit www.thedeaddaisies.com
