(GLEN RIDGE, NJ) -- The Gas Lamp Junior Players will present Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. on July 13-14 at Ridgewood Avenue School in Glen Ridge. Ninety-seven local students ( Bloomfield, Clifton, Glen Ridge, Montclair, Verona, Wayne and West Orange are the towns represented this summer), grades 1-7, will take the stage to tell the classic story of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
“Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR. features some of the most popular songs ever written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice,” says Heather Ballantyne, Director of Beauty and the Beast JR. “Musical numbers include favorite songs such as: Belle, Gaston, Be our Guest , and Human Again; it is a fantastic adaptation of the story of transformation and tolerance.”
“This musical features many fun supporting roles, allowing students to play objects inside the caste”, adds Rennae Pelayo, Executive Producer of the show. “The tale as old as time is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities”.
Performances will take place on Friday, July 13th at 7:00pm and Saturday, July 14th at 1:00pm at Ridgewood Avenue School in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. Tickets are $10.00/adult and $5.00/student and are available online.
