[ 30 ] - Suzanne Vega - Flying with Angels

Friday, November 06, 2026 @ 8:00pm
Category: music

Suzanne Vega will perform a career-spanning show including favorites like “Tom’s Diner”, “Luka”, “Marlene On The Wall”, and many more, plus songs from her latest album, Flying with Angels, which was released in May 2025 to critical acclaim. She will be joined on stage by her longtime guitarist, Gerry Leonard (of David Bowie fame), and cellist Stephanie Winters.

Widely regarded as one of the foremost songwriters of her generation, Suzanne Vega emerged as a leading figure of the folk revival of the early 1980s. Accompanying herself on acoustic guitar, Vega sang what has been called contemporary folk or neo-folk songs of her own creation in Greenwich Village clubs. Since the release of her self-titled, critically acclaimed 1985 debut album, she has given sold-out concerts in many of the world’s best-known venues. Known for performances that convey deep emotion, Vega’s distinctive, “clear, unwavering voice” (Rolling Stone) has been described as “a cool, dry sandpaper-brushed near-whisper” by The Washington Post, with NPR Music noting that she “has been making vital, inventive music” throughout the course of her decades-long career. Bearing the stamp of a masterful storyteller who “observes the world with a clinically poetic eye” (The New York Times), Vega’s songs have tended to focus on city life, ordinary people and real-world subjects. Notably succinct and understated, her work is immediately recognizable—as utterly distinct and thoughtful as it was when her voice was first heard on the radio over 40 years ago.

[ 32 ] - Rufus Wainwright - Wanted: Judy Garland

Thursday, November 19, 2026 @ 7:30pm
Category: music

Praised as “the greatest songwriter on the planet,” by Sir Elton John, Rufus Wainwright joins the Princeton Playhouse Sinfonia for a special one-night-only engagement performing selections from his albums Rufus does Judy at Carnegie Hall and Want One, Want Two, and beyond. Princeton Playhouse Sinfonia is a dynamic new collaborative ensemble that brings together student musicians from Princeton University's Sinfonia, directed by Ruth Ochs, and Princeton Playhouse Orchestra, directed by Solon Snider Sway, alongside members of the Princeton Jazz Ensembles and local professional musicians.

On the mark of its 20th anniversary this year, Wainwright’s “Rufus Does Judy” is undoubtedly one of the most sensational shows from his incredible career, an exhilarating and loving recreation of Judy Garland’s infamous 1961 comeback concert. “Rufus Does Judymade its premiere at Carnegie Hall in 2006 and garnered Wainwright’s first GRAMMY nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album. The full program has been performed globally including the London Palladium, Hollywood Bowl, Paris’ L'Olympia, and Toronto’s Luminato Festival. For the Colorado Symphony show, Wainwright will curate a special selection of his favorite songs from the album. 2026 will be the last time Rufus reprises this iconic show.

Rufus Wainwright’s Want One and Want Two have earned recognition as iconic albums worldwide, with Paste Magazine elevating Want One to the No. 1 album of the year, and Rolling Stone Magazine listing it in their top 5 best albums of 2003. Bowie hailed Wainwright’s song ‘Dinner at Eight’ as the “best father/son song he knew”. 22 years later, these songs have been given new life through lush symphonic arrangements by Sally Herbert (Woodkid, Florence + the Machine) and Max Moston (Antony and the Johnsons).

Combined in one program, these works form just a few of the many pillars of Rufus Wainwright’s extensive career—works that define his singular voice and fearless emotional range, merging vulnerability with spectacle, tradition with reinvention. Decades on, these songs continue to resonate as the foundation of Wainwright’s legacy.

[ 95 ] - Kronos Quartet: A Hard Rain

Saturday, February 20, 2027 @ 7:30pm
Category: music

A Hard Rain is the Kronos Quartet’s newest large-scale program, created in collaboration with the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists and inspired by the Doomsday Clock. An idea born in Chicago, where Kronos performed for a gathering of Nobel Prize–winning physicists addressing existential threats such as nuclear weapons, climate change, and artificial intelligence. That performance—combining music with readings from Hiroshima survivors, world leaders, and historical archives—sparked the vision for a program exploring the fragility of civilization and honoring the scientists working to safeguard it.

Marking the 80th anniversary of the Trinity nuclear test, the Kronos Quartet, together with The Hard Rain Collective, has released two powerful reimaginings of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s a-Gonna Fall” – a sung version, featuring an eclectic ensemble of voices including Iggy Pop, Willie Nelson, Allison Russell, Laurie Anderson, and Stephin Merritt, supported by members of Belle & Sebastian, Deerhoof, Patti Smith’s band, and a Brooklyn choir. And a counterpart offering an experimental spoken-word interpretation featuring Ringo Starr, Tom Morello, Ocean Vuong, Charlotte Gainsbourg, among others.

The full program expands these collaborations, including new texts by poet Ocean Vuong.

[ 116 ] - Silkroad Ensemble featuring Cecile McLorin Salvant

Tuesday, April 13, 2027 @ 7:30pm
Category: music

The Silkroad Ensemble is ecstatic to announce GRAMMY-winning vocalist and composer Cécile McLorin Salvant as the special guest for a limited run of performances that promise to be rich, surprising, and full of musical discovery.

This bold collaboration began in 2023 with Salvant’s hauntingly original composition “Have You Seen My Man?”  — a standout track on Silkroad’s American Railroad album, featuring Rhiannon Giddens and released on Nonesuch in 2024. The piece showcases Silkroad’s signature boundary-blurring artistry and group vocals—elements that will take center stage in this new program.

Expect a powerful fusion of improvisation, tradition, and unexpected musical turns as Salvant joins the Ensemble to explore connections across cultures and histories. With family roots in Haiti and France, she brings a deeply personal perspective to the idea of cultural exchange—shaped by a lifelong experience of moving between languages, identities, and stories. For Salvant, Silkroad offers an exciting opportunity to engage with musical traditions beyond her own ones she’s eager to learn from, challenge, and reimagine.

Salvant, a multi-disciplinary visual artist, notes "I make large hand-embroidered drawings on silk organza, which has influenced the way I make and think about music and the interplay between disciplines and mediums.  I’m thinking about the ‘silk’ in ‘Silkroad’, about the connections between textile and song across cultures and throughout history."

FEATURING ARTISTS
• Cécile McLorin Salvant, vocals
• Maeve Gilchrist, harp
• Mazz Swift, violin
• Niwel Tsumbu, guitar
• Francesco Turrisi, frame drums, accordion
• Kaoru Watanabe, Japanese flutes and percussion

EVENT PREVIEWS

Cherlyn

Cherlyn Hsing-Hsin Liu’s new film screens at the New Jersey Film Festival on September 6!

In 2025, Cherlyn Hsing-Hsin Liu, an artist, filmmaker, and writer whose work is experimental, conceptual, avant-garde, and philosophic, began working with an antique hand-cranked projector from 1909, and this experience led her to reflect on the evolution of film and experiment with the process, which included painting by hand directly on the film. She treated the film not as individual frames, but as hundreds of feet of scroll paintings that flowed before her eyes as the gears in the projector were turned by her own hand. She described the feeling as a boat sailing, or the wind singing. The title of the film is derived from an old Chinese anecdote.”Having heard the wind pass by countless times, one has finally come to realize the landscape of life, the Dao of life.”
