The VA New Jersey Healthcare System is pleased to present an evening of stand-up comedy to raise awareness of Veteran suicide. 1 Degree of Separation begins with stand-up comedy with four different comedians. Not mental health comedy. Just comedy. We just want you to laugh. Laughter changes your brain. In the second half of the show, the four comedians answer five questions about their own mental health.
Through humor and personal stories, our program provides essential education of what an open, supportive conversation looks like. We aim to bring dialogue, awareness, and acceptance for those suffering from depression through laughter and vulnerability. We laugh at the dark stuff, because laughter releases the pain. We talk about depression because no one should feel shame. With an army of comedians, we hope to kill the stigma of depression and share stories of hope, happiness, and triumph. Depression has one degree of separation: if you don’t suffer, then someone you know does. Join us to laugh and learn through this groundbreaking comedy show. 1 Degree of Separation is part of the VA NJHCS’s Garden State Veterans Resilience Arts Trail. Please see our website for more information about the Trail.
