1776 - The Classic Movie Musical

Friday, July 03, 2026 @ 7:00pm

State Theatre New Jersey
15 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Step into the founding of a nation with a special screening of 1776 at State Theatre New Jersey, part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. This witty, inspiring musical brings history to life as John Adams (William Daniels), Benjamin Franklin (Howard Da Silva), and Thomas Jefferson (Ken Howard) navigate heated debates, personal rivalries, and impossible odds to shape the Declaration of Independence.

Featuring unforgettable songs like “Sit Down, John,” “Till Then,” “The Lees of Old Virginia,” and the powerful “Molasses to Rum,” 1776 blends humor, drama, and music to capture the courage, compromise, and conviction that defined America’s earliest days. With sharp dialogue and standout performances—including John Dickinson (Donald Madden) and Edward Rutledge (John Cullum)—the film offers both entertainment and insight into the personalities behind the nation’s founding.

Experience it on the big screen at State Theatre New Jersey and celebrate this historic milestone with a film that’s as entertaining as it is timeless.
