Guitarist and Songwriter Rupert Wates in Concert

originally published: 02/11/2024

(SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ) -- Guitarist and Songwriter Rupert Wates will perform at The All Saints' Episcopal Church in Scotch Plains on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 7:30pm. The acclaimed finger-picking guitarist plays an eclectic mix of folk, jazz, contemporary and traditional – with other touches like classical, vaudeville, and cabaret.

Rupert, who was born in London and studied at Oxford University, performs an eclectic mix of acoustic, melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz, vaudeville, cabaret, and classical - music that a Colorado publication called 'sublime folk hymns.'

With playing perfectly suited to the fine acoustics of the church, Rupert will play two 40-minute sets with a 20-minute intermission with complementary light refreshments.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors 65 and older and are available for purchase online or at the door. All Saints' Episcopal Church is located at 559 Park Avenue in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. There is parking behind the church off of School Place.

Rupert has won over 50 songwriting and performing awards. In 2018, he performed as a Finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Song Contest, and an Emerging Artist at Falconridge Folk Festival. He was voted ‘Artist of The Year’ by the Listening Room Network in both 2013 and 2016. More than 25 of his songs have been covered by other artists, including two full length tribute albums to his material recorded by independent artists in Nashville and Los Angeles. He has released 12 solo albums, tracks from which have been played on radio worldwide. He averages 120 live shows a year, in every state in the US, in Canada and in Europe.
