Final Shows of 2022 Cape May Music Festival

originally published: 06/20/2022

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- The final shows of the 33rd annual Cape May Music Festival, presented by Cape May MAC (Museums+Arts+Culture), feature the exuberance of jazz performer Paula Johns, the beauty of a Brahms masterpiece, and the excitement of a full orchestral performance by the Bay Atlantic Symphony. The festival series continues with its all-live, in-person, indoor and outdoor concert schedule through Thursday, June 30.

The finale of the series will be the full orchestral performance by the Bay Atlantic Symphony at Cape May Convention Hall on Friday, June 30 at 7:00pm featuring violin soloist Kati Hyun, and performances of Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto and Beethoven's 7th Symphony.

"Occasionally, Beethoven wrote something that was immediately recognized as both artistically great and hugely popular," according to Notes on Beethoven's 7th Symphony by Christopher H. Gibbs. "An example is the second movement of his Seventh Symphony, a piece that was often performed separately from the complete Symphony and that may have been Beethoven's most popular orchestral composition."

Katie Hyun was a founding member of the award-winning Amphion String Quartet, which won the Concert Artists’ Guild Management in 2011 and a spot on the roster of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS Two Program. The Amphion String Quartet’s debut CD was also featured on the New York Times’ "Best of 2015." Additionally, the quartet has performed in Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, La Jolla Music Festival, the Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., OK Mozart, the Chautauqua Institution, and Caramoor Music Festival.

This year's festival featured eight weeks of music in a variety of genres from May to June including classical, chamber, brass band, jazz and Americana. To purchase tickets, visit capemaymac.org or call 609-884-5404.
