BlowUpRadio.com's New & Notable NJ Music: 9/19/22

By Lazlo

originally published: 09/19/2022

Lazlo, founder of BlowUpRadio.com (an online station based around New Jersey artists), shines a light on some of the many new releases from NJ based musicians each week with this column. This week Lazlo takes a look at releases by Jack Skuller, Well Wisher, All Systems Go, Katye Kellye & The Interruption, Karma Gambit, and Chris Nitti.

Jack Skuller - "Give Yourself A Chance" [single]. Hard to believe it has been 12 years since Jack Skuller put out his first single at the age of 14. Even harder to believe is in those 12 years Jack has never released a full length album. The first single from his forthcoming debut album is titled "Give Yourself A Chance", and you should give it a chance if you like mid-tempo pop rock songs with a hook-laden chorus.

Well Wisher - "That Weight". 12 songs in 33 minutes, yes, Well Wisher's new album is pop friendly indie-punk rock, that will have you smiling and singing along, while the lyrics pack a deeper, more emotional impact.

All Systems Go - "What About a Shipwreck in Canada?" [single]. All Systems Go is so good at making anthemic pop punk tunes, and this tune made me feel nostalgic for reasons I couldn't at first explain, until I realized the lyrics appear to be about their history as a band. It is absolutely beautiful, and I hope the band continues to keep doing things their way.

Katye Kellye & The Interruption - "Look What You Made Me Do" [single]. What happens when Katye Kellye rediscovers lyrics from the 80's and challenges her long ago ex-husband to write music for it? You get this gem of a song that has 80's synth-rock sound, with a modern twist. Makes for a very different sound from a typical Katye Kellye & The Interruption song, but it is a welcome surprise.

Karma Gambit - "When Does Rock 'n' Roll Start To Get Sad?". "When Does Rock 'n' Roll Start To Get Sad?", not with this album, that's for damn sure. Karma Gambit has crafted a perfect power-pop album to get you through this fall.

Chris Nitti - "How Much Longer?". This is some fine Indie-Folk-Rock, and I may be inferring things that aren't there, but I think this album may be telling a story with a real emotional journey in these 8 songs.

That's all for this week.
