(NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- On November 5, 2026, George Street Playhouse announced that five-time Tony Award-winning Broadway producer and longtime trustee Sharon Karmazin has been named Chair of its Board of Trustees. The theater also welcomes nine trustee appointments, including seven new members and two returning trustees, bringing experience in the performing arts, business, finance, law, philanthropy, and nonprofit leadership.
The appointments mark an important chapter for GSP as the organization, led by Executive Director Edgar Herrera and Artistic Producer Scott Goldman, continues to strengthen its artistic programming, expand its audiences, deepen community engagement, and build a sustainable future.
“George Street Playhouse has been an important part of my life for more than three decades, and I am honored to serve as Chair of the Board,” said Sharon Karmazin. “I believe deeply in the power of great theater to inspire, entertain, and bring people together. I look forward to working with Edgar, Scott, and the Board to bring exceptional artists and productions to our stages, welcome new audiences, and create more opportunities for young people and our community to experience theater through education. There is tremendous opportunity ahead for GSP, and I am excited to be part of its future.”
A member of the George Street Playhouse Board of Trustees for 32 years, Sharon Karmazin is a five-time Tony Award-winning producer who has co-produced more than 40 productions on Broadway, Off-Broadway, London’s West End, and national tours. Her cultural leadership includes board service with the Entertainment Community Fund, the Yiddish Book Center, and Moment Magazine. She is the founding sponsor of the Rutgers Jewish Film Festival and was inducted into the Rutgers University Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2015.
“Sharon brings an extraordinary combination of theatrical knowledge, energy, and philanthropic leadership to George Street Playhouse,” said Edgar Herrera, Executive Director. “Her experience on Broadway, her commitment to artistic excellence, and her enthusiasm for reaching new audiences make her an exceptional partner as we shape the theater’s future. We share a vision for a vibrant, ambitious, and financially sustainable GSP, and I look forward to working with her and our Board to bring that vision to life.”
