(NEWARK, NJ) -- NJIT's Theatre Arts & Technology Program presents Sense & Sensibility from November 5-7, 2026 in the Jim Wise Theatre. Kate Hamill's playful adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters after their father's death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable.
Set in gossipy late 18th-century England with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth and bold theatricality. Sense & Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures. When reputation is everything, how do you follow your heart?
At the heart of Sense & Sensibility are two sisters navigating a world suddenly made uncertain. Following their father’s death, Elinor and Marianne Dashwood face diminished circumstances, social scrutiny, and the unpredictable course of love, each guided by a different balance of reason and emotion.
The production is directed by Rodney Reyes.
Performances take place Thursday, November 5 at 7:00pm; Friday, November 6 at 7:00pm; and Saturday, November 7 at 2:30pm. Tickets are available for purchase online. The Jim Wise Theatre is located in Kupfrian Hall on the NJIT Campus at 99 Summit Street in Newark, New Jersey.
