Rock On! This Week's Sound Bites... 11/05/2026

by Danny Coleman

originally published: 11/05/2026

"Not too bad brother, that's right, we do, "Go Rebel," happily stated Wicked bassist Daniel Martin. "We actually soft released it when we went on tour in the UK and Ireland with Dave Ellefson of Megadeath. We went out with his band, Kings of Thrash and I'll tell you what man, it was received really well. Even though we went out there with these heavy metal bands, everybody was so excited for this upbeat, hard hitting rock that we brought out that we were doing record store signings and people were buying the vinyl in different markets in Europe, England and Japan; it's a really exciting time for us with "Go Rebel."

"Go Rebel" is the most recent release from "Hard rock band" Wicked and they are gearing up for a string of shows in New York and one special one here in New Jersey at Teaneck's Debonair Music Hall on November 13 before heading left post Christmas for a series of West Coast engagements.
Bassist Martin recently discussed the record, touring and their preference in headlining.
"What we've done when it comes to headlining; we've kind of put on our own shows and a lot of that has been in the Northeast area, sort of our backyard territory," he said confidently. "We've done a little bit across the country but we've done a lot of support stuff over the last couple of years with bands like Raven, Buck Cherry, Vicious Rumors, Ace Frehley Band and bands like that; we're trying to bring people and surround them with kind of the lost art of good time, hard rock music where you go to a show and see a full entertainment spectacle something like a larger than life Alice Cooper or David Bowie type of thing but in modern times; it's really cool. We put our own spin on it and it's super high energy rock 'n' roll. I almost always say it's an athletic event if you see what we are doing on stage, the splits, jumps, pole vaults while hitting chords and killer solos, it's hard rock all the way; if you dig into our influences, it's more of those '70s bands like Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, UFO, The Stars, bands like those that we really loved growing up as kids. We have such a broad musical taste even though we've grown up in the 2000s so we've started to pull different influences that maybe people wouldn't traditionally do and I think that has kind of been the secret sauce to "Go Rebel" coming off our first release, "The Last American Rock Band" and then "Sunburn," "Go Rebel" really opened up the floodgates and expanded our creative influences. So, you kind of see that evolution in the music. We started this thing originally to get all the girls out (Laughs) and then it was, now we are in it too far and the only thing leftover is the love of the music and the excitement that comes from it; this is fun rock 'n' roll."

Their approach to "Go Rebel" may be slightly different from their past efforts but one thing that is not is the fact they are an incredibly tight unit both on and off stage; heck, they actually live together.

"We've been holding strong. This is more like a family, the band lives together and that's kind of how people know us. So, between me and I'm very lucky to have my brother Chad Michael as a part of this with me, it keeps us, the actual family really close but Scotty V, Gunnar Costo; these guys have been together with us for so long and we do everything together. We go on trips together, we obviously play a lot of music, we help each other grind through day jobs, it's cool and it's like the never ending dream of being with your buddies. There are ups and downs and all of this stuff but we do it together and it's super cool."

Martin says the new release is a "Milestone" for the band and "Fresh" but they also consider it an invite to their ever growing fan base.

"The new record is 13 tracks and like I said, other than letting in these new influences where we're kind of widening our horizons, this album, off of the last twprobably is the milestone where we were a full album fresh. There were no leftover demos, no rewritten older songs, "Go Rebel," we started writing a couple of brand new songs and it just kept going. I think before we got too far along we realized what we were doing was creating, in some ways, a little bit of a heavier melodic album. There is a good mix of variety on it but what we were doing was creating almost an invitation to the fans; it was like this next stage to our chapter where through this rebellion like message; not rebel without a cause but more like rebel with a cause. It's this invitation to come and join us. Come and join the rock 'n' roll scene, be a part of the Wicked community; we call them The Nightshifts because it's these people who work hard, they travel to shows, they're the ones who make this whole rock 'n' roll thing still exist. They get off of their day to day, they find that escape by coming to a show to see Wicked or some of these other great bands. They clock in and turn it up and so that's like the mentality, get away from your day to day for a couple minutes, put a smile on your face and just let loose."

The band continues to write together collectively but also acknowledges an extra set of eyes and ears are always welcome during the process and there is one more "Member" of the band who fills that role well, proving that Nachos aren't just an appetizer any longer.

"We've stuck pretty true to the notion of us writing things together as a group but I will say that it's very important to note that besides the four of us; I call him "The Fifth Beatle," he's our producer and engineer Nacho Molino. He's a great friend of ours and when we connected it was kind of one of those moments; this guy is from Panama and we connect, meet his good friends in Salem, Massachusetts and he comes up here and starts working on albums with us and we're still working ever since. I call it that fifth perspective because if we were just staying in our bubble we wouldn't have room to grow. So, we've got this great friend and asset who is so talented who comes in and pulls the best out of us. We'll get songs started and we'll start coming up with ideas and go into pre-production and I'll tell you what, I've never seen somebody with such an ear for parts and ideas, not to mention his mixes. We are super lucky and blessed to know somebody and be involved with somebody with so much talent; he's got accolades out the window but somehow we are lucky enough to work with him and I thank my stars everyday."

With "Go Rebel" out and the November 13 show at Debonair Music Hall quickly approaching along with those New York and California dates; what's up in 2027? Martin says hold on tight, they are just getting started.

"The album is out, we released it just before we went overseas and it's out in vinyl, CD, digital and it's pretty cool becaus now we're going on our American leg of the push. So, the end of 2026 and into next year, we're gonna bring "Go Rebel" live around the country. We're gonna start off here in the Northeast, work our way over to the West Coast, we've got some killer dates at the end of January. We'll be out in L.A. at Joshua Tree, in Santa Ana, Anaheim we'll be playing House Of Blues with Metal Allegiance; we're gonna make a big push out there. Then we're gonna go around the U.S. a little more before we go overseas again to Europe in June and then we'll be making one of my bucket list dream trips, we are going to Japan. We are yet to officially announce those dates but they are coming out and it's gonna be a whirlwind of a year for us but it's all to celebrate our new album "Go Rebel." So, we're strapping the boots on, getting ready to go, our bags are packed."

There is one more show of note taking place very soon as on November 5 and 6 soon in Tuckerton, NJ at The Lizzie Rose Music Room as "Johnny Copeland's little girl" Shemekia brings her award wnning band and music there for what promises to be an incredible night of music. Opening act is the JB Barnes Band which features former members of The Spin Doctors, Black Crowes and more; if you are a fan of blues music, this is a don't miss opportunity.

That's it for this week! Please continue to support live and original music and until next week....ROCK ON!
