(PHILADELPHIA, PA) -- On June 18, 2026, WXPN Musicians On Call expanded its live music programs to Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation, bringing the healing power of music to patients, families, and caregivers throughout rehabilitation and recovery. The new program marks the 10th healthcare facility served in the Greater Philadelphia region through the longstanding partnership between WXPN and Musicians On Call (MOC), and the first rehabilitation hospital in the area to host regular MOC performances.
To celebrate the launch, South Philadelphia native Adam Weiner, frontman of rock band Low Cut Connie, performed an intimate set for patients and caregivers before making several room-to-room bedside visits, demonstrating firsthand how live music can enhance the patient experience in healthcare settings.
Registration is now open for the annual WXPN 5k Run for Musicians On Call on October 18. Community members can run the 5k or walk a “funky mile” in person or virtually, with proceeds supporting local WXPN Musicians On Call programs, including the newly launched program at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation. Information for the WXPN 5k Run for Musicians On Call is available here.

Patients receiving rehabilitation care often spend weeks or months rebuilding their strength, mobility, independence, and confidence. Through regular live music performances, WXPN Musicians On Call aims to create moments of comfort, encouragement, and connection for patients as they work toward recovery.
“Music can play a powerful role in the recovery process after the onset of a disability by supporting both physical and emotional healing. Examples include assisting with recovery from communication disorders such as aphasia, or improving mood and overall well-being by reducing stress and anxiety, impacting an individual's adaptation to disability. Also, music can provide a sense of connection and normalcy during what can be a very challenging time,” said Thomas Smith, chief operating officer at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation. “The live performances provided by WXPN Musicians on Call will give our patients at Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation the opportunity to enjoy live shows in a supportive environment. And, the performances will provide opportunities for us to share practical tips and guidance to our patients on how to safely and confidently attend live music events as they transition back into their communities.”
"While we have spent more than two decades bringing the healing power of music to hospitals across the region, expanding into a dedicated rehabilitation setting allows us to support patients in an entirely new way. Rehab patients often face a long, demanding road to recovery, making the emotional and mental benefits of live music incredibly impactful,” says Musicians On Call President & CEO Pete Griffin. “We are proud to partner with Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation to fill this unique need, and we are grateful to WXPN for its longstanding partnership and commitment to helping us bring live music to patients throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. Together, we’re ensuring that patients and their caregivers have an uplifting, harmonious environment to support them every step of the way."

"WXPN Musicians On Call has been bringing local musicians and live music to patient bedsides throughout our region for over two decades. We are delighted to extend that service to Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation as part of the important healing work happening there," said Roger LaMay, general manager of WXPN. "We invite everyone to register and run or walk with us on October 18 to support this program.”
WXPN Musicians On Call volunteers have delivered live music experiences to nearly 163,000 patients, family members, and caregivers across the Greater Philadelphia region, including healthcare facilities in southeastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware. The addition of Jefferson Moss-Magee Rehabilitation extends those services to rehabilitation patients, furthering the program’s mission to use the healing power of music to support patients and families throughout treatment, recovery, and healing.
For over 20 years, WXPN Musicians On Call has delivered the healing power of music to patients, families, and caregivers in the Philadelphia area. To date, nearly 163,000 people have experienced the joys of live music at their bedsides across 10 local healthcare facilities. Powered by a dedicated local network of Volunteer Guides and Volunteer Musicians, the program creates vital moments of human connection when it is needed most. Because a single song can ease fear, isolation, and pain, these bedside performances offer essential comfort, ease stress, and remind both patients and caregivers that they are not alone.
