At the heart of Roxey Ballet’s success is its remarkable roster of dancers—artists whose technical brilliance and emotional depth elevate every performance. A centerpiece of the evening is Frida, choreographed by internationally recognized artist Giovanni Ravelo. This signature work has become a defining piece in Roxey Ballet’s repertoire, honoring the life and indomitable spirit of Frida Kahlo through a striking blend of cultural authenticity and contemporary expression.
In the title role, Veronica Higgins delivers a tour-de-force performance. With commanding presence and profound emotional range, Higgins captures Kahlo’s resilience, vulnerability, and fierce individuality. Her interpretation stands as a testament to the caliber of artistry that defines Roxey Ballet’s company dancers—refined, fearless, and deeply human. Equally captivating is Rachel Natsumi Gibbs, whose performances radiate precision, charisma, and dynamic energy. Gibbs brings dazzling virtuosity to her variation from Don Quixote, igniting the stage with technical brilliance and vibrant musicality. She further shines in Majísimo, where her bold character work and stylistic clarity underscore her versatility as an artist of exceptional range.
Continuing Roxey Ballet’s commitment to original work and cultural storytelling, Artistic Director Mark Roxey presents the premiere of Jíbaro. This new creation draws inspiration from the traditions and spirit of Puerto Rico, offering a contemporary lens through which heritage is celebrated and reimagined. The work reflects Roxey Ballet’s ongoing mission: to honor cultural roots while pushing the boundaries of modern dance. Latin Creations is more than a performance—it is a reflection of 30 years of artistic vision, community impact, and unwavering dedication to the transformative power of dance.
