ACC Gallery presents Jaewon Kim solo exhibition

originally published: 10/03/2025

(TENAFLY, NJ) -- Jaewon Kim's solo exhibition will be held at ACC Gallery from October 6-25, 2025. This 13th solo show is her U.S. debut, continuing her long-standing exploration of "dreams."

She studied both painting and printmaking at Hongik University, developing her own pictorial vocabulary by moving between the two mediums. Her works feature intricate printmaking-inspired lines, soft pastel tones, and warm, illustration-like compositions. This distinctive visual language invites viewers to uncover the layered meanings hidden within her art.

Through series such as Stories of Dreamers and Village in Dreams, Kim has consistently pursued the theme of dreams. At first glance, her works evoke a childlike, fairy-tale lyricism, yet they move beyond nostalgia for childhood worlds. With gentle colors and familiar motifs, she disarms the viewer, revealing metaphors of simple joys, hope, and everyday beauty.

A notable element of this exhibition is the presence of "resort-like landscapes." Tropical trees, clouds, and flowers combine to form dreamlike utopias—unfamiliar yet comforting. Rather than serving as mere decoration, these landscapes evoke a sense of ease and leisure.

The recurring motif of the "house" also plays a central role in her dream narratives. Inspired by her childhood pet's doghouse, this motif intertwines with trees, cakes, strawberries, and other elements to create layered meanings. These images are not simply surreal fantasies but intersections of reality and imagination, symbolizing a shared longing for refuge in uncertain times. Warmly and intimately rendered, the "house" offers viewers a space of comfort and rest.

Ultimately, the exhibition reflects a modern desire to step away from daily life and dwell within dreams. From personal memories to contemporary realities and into dreamscapes of rest, Kim presents a holistic view of her artistic journey. Kim notes: "I hope this exhibition offers each person a chance to awaken the dreams within their hearts and to write their own stories."

Jaewon Kim invites audiences to rediscover the value of dreams, rest, and everyday life amid contemporary realities.
