Playful Theatre Productions presents "The SpongeBob Musical" at Kelsey Theatre

originally published: 09/09/2025

(WEST WINDSOR, NJ) -- Join Playful Theatre Productions on a trip to Bikini Bottom and "The SpongeBob Musical," September 19-28, 2025, when the Kelsey Theatre kicks off a season of "Matinee Masterpieces" on the West Windsor Campus of Mercer County Community College.

“The SpongeBob Musical” is a hilarious all-singing, all-dancing, dynamic stage performance based on the popular television series—but enjoyable even to those who have never seen the TV show. It all begins when the citizens of Bikini Bottom discover that a volcano will soon erupt and destroy their humble home, and SpongeBob and his friends must come together to save the fate of their undersea world. With lives hanging in the balance and all hope lost, a most unexpected hero rises up—but will the power of optimism really save the day?

With stunning costumes and performances, “The SpongeBob Musical" features incredible music from a variety of beloved artists, including songs written by Aerosmith, Cydni Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, John Legend, Sara Bareilles, David Bowie and many more. And while the cartoon series is geared towards elementary aged students, the musical is smart, creative, and tackles important issues such as overcoming adversity, the harm our biases and prejudice can cause, and building confidence.

“The SpongeBob Musical” features a talented cast that includes Benjamin Weidner, West Deptford, N.J.; Pat Rounds, Hamilton, N.J.; Rebecca Schledwitz, Ewing, N.J.; Michael Gilch, Asbury Park, N.J.; Aiden Stallworth-Glitz, Ewing; Dan Keyser, East Windsor, N.J.; Chrissy Johnson, Bordentown, N.J.; Trinity Austin, Hamilton; William Kamps, Burlington, N.J.; Denise Carey, Yardley, Pa.; Lisa Ernst, Hightstown, N.J.; Kori Wright, Bristol, Pa.; Kacey Cavalieri, Lawrence, N.J.; Megan Thompson, Hamilton; Juliana Davies, Pennington, N.J.; Ed Forsthoffer, Hamilton; Mark Shifton, Lawrence; Aimée Robidoux, Levittown, Pa.; Edgar Mariano, Hamilton; Anthony Fania, Burlington County, N.J.; Caroline Kamps, Burlington, N.J.; Michaela Huntley, Burlington City, N.J.; Lindsey Grelis, Tabernacle, N.J.; Kendal Plumstead, Flemington, N.J.; Ethan Shaev, Robbinsville, N.J.; Kheil Canono, Ewing; Mason DeGoria, Pennington; Sean Gavin, Allentown, N.J.; and Tom Bessellieu, Lawrenceville, N.J.
