(BROOKLYN, NY) -- African Mermaid in collaboration with Rescuepoetix and the Laundromat Project present "Preserving Culture Through Storytelling: A Gathering of Elders in the Bed-Stuy Community: Exploring Oral History, Culture & Tradition" on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Restoration Plaza in Brooklyn. The event runs from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Let's celebrate, uplift and share in the oral tradition of storytelling with Senior Citizens of Bedford-Stuyvesant.  Brooklyn Badd Boy, DJ T-Groove, will provide a soundscape of the times, along with an afternoon of community engagement, guest speakers, historic narratives, group activities, poetry performances, and an open-mic featuring our Seniors. Light refreshments will be served.  Please join us, and be a part of our community's legacy through neighborhood engagement, and the cultivation of oral history.

The event is hosted by Tantra-zawadi and Rescue Poetix.

Guest Speakers include: Carolyn A. Butts: Executive Director, African Voices Communications, Inc., Founder/Film Festival Director – Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival; and Devonne Jackson-Perez: renowned Urban Farmer and Sustainability Educator, and co-founder of Good Ground Growers.

Accessible and family friendly - admission is FREE! Restoration Plaza is located at 1368 Fulton Street in Brooklyn, NY.
