Paper Mill Playhouse's Summer Musical Theater Conservatory presents "Endless Ovations"

(MILLBURN, NJ) -- Paper Mill Playhouse has selected students to be a part of its prestigious Summer Musical Theater Conservatory for 2024. Members of the competitive Conservatory who earned coveted spots in the Senior (ages 15-18), Junior Plus (ages 13-14), and Junior (ages 10-12) companies are directed and choreographed by Paper Mill Playhouse's professional artistic staff in a fully produced, original concert titled Endless Ovations, a celebration of 85 years of Paper Mill productions.

A show unlike any other produced by Paper Mill Playhouse, this special concert features 122 talented young performers, including Rising Star Award winners and nominees. The 2024 New Voices Concert showcases cherished musical gems from Paper Mill’s long history, drawing on songs from Crazy for You, Newsies, Honeymoon in Vegas, Children of Eden, The Wizard of Oz, Follies, Funny Girl, The Student Prince, Gypsy, Mame, Les Misérables, and many more. The Hearst Foundations are Paper Mill’s Education & Outreach Partner.

Performances of Endless Ovations will be held on Friday, July 26 at 7:30pm and Saturday, July 27 at 1:30pm & 7:30pm at Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn, NJ. Tickets range in price from $25 to $55 and are available for purchase online, by calling (973) 376-4343, or by visiting the Paper Mill Playhouse Box Office.

From the first day of class all the way through opening night of New Voices, we require our students to rise to the demands of this rigorous program,” stated Lisa Cooney, Paper Mill Playhouse Director of Education, Outreach and Access. “We ask them to work harder than they ever have before as young performers. Our faculty pushes the students to believe in themselves as professional artists, and as a result, when they move on to college or the professional world, they are ready for the challenges they’ll face. We take great pride when they make a name for themselves on Broadway or in Hollywood and from knowing every member of the Conservatory has learned the skills and the work ethic to serve them in any field.”

The Paper Mill Playhouse Summer Musical Theater Conservatory is a demanding program allowing students to enhance their individual performance potential while developing a broad base of theater experience and knowledge. Students participate in an intensive roster of classes including musical theater performance, acting, dance, private voice lessons, and improvisation, while also attending guest workshops led by professional actors, directors, and casting agents. The final weeks are devoted to rehearsals for the annual New Voices Concert. The Conservatory offers a unique opportunity for gifted and talented young performers to work at their own level and challenge themselves to achieve new goals and learn new skills. Key to the curriculum is the development of self-discipline, respect, and a commitment to excellence that will serve these young artists throughout their lives. The New Voices Concert is the culmination of the five-week program.

New Voices is an amazing opportunity to see the stars of tomorrow,” commented Mark S. This program educates, cultivates, and enriches the entire young performer, from their individual talents to their role within an ensemble company to, ultimately, their role within the professional performance community at large.”

Many students from Paper Mill Playhouse’s Conservatory have appeared on Broadway, in regional theater productions, in films, and on television.

The Anthropologists present World Premiere of "axes, herbs and satchels" at Art House

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- The Anthropologists, a NYC-based, female-led, investigative theater company launches the world premiere of their devised play "axes, herbs and satchels." The tour begins in Jersey City at Art House on February 19-20, 2025, followed by stops in Delray Beach at Arts Garage on February 23, and Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana on March 5. The show will return to New York City in Spring 2025 with performances in the Bronx, Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Passage Theatre Company presents Suzan-Lori Parks' Pulitzer Prize-Winning Play "Topdog/Underdog"

Topdog/Underdog by Pulitzer prize-winning Black playwright Suzan-Lori Parks is receiving its Trenton, New Jersey premiere at Passage Theatre Company, as part of its landmark 40th anniversary season. The play opens February 21, 2025, and runs until March 9, 2025, at the Mill Hill Playhouse. A darkly comic fable of brotherly love and family identity, Topdog/Underdog tells the story of Lincoln and Booth, two brothers whose names were given to them as a joke by their father, foreshadowing a lifetime of sibling rivalry and resentment.

American Theater Group presents "Purlie"

(RAHWAY, NJ) -- Broadway veteran Kenny Ingram will direct American Theater Group's (ATG) production of the exhilarating and Tony Award-winning musical Purlie, running March 6-23, 2025, at Hamilton Stage in Rahway. Gary Mitchell, Jr. will provide Musical Direction. Purlie is the 1970 musical adaptation of Ossie Davis's comedic play Purlie Victorious, which just completed a hugely successful revival on Broadway last season.
