Dunbar Repertory Company presents the Sweet Potato Reading Series featuring "Repurchased"
 

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- Dunbar Repertory Company presents the acclaimed Sweet Potato Pie Reading Series featuring author Rhonda Williams and her novel, Repurchased. This special book-reading and Q&A session directed by Mark Antonio Henderson takes place on Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Middletown Arts Center. A book-signing period follows the presentation and copies of Repurchased will be available for purchase.

 



"Grief at High Tide" - Special Guests to Hold Conversations at Vivid Stage
 

(SUMMIT, NJ) -- Vivid Stage, in residence at Oakes Center at 120 Morris Avenue in Summit, will present the world premiere of Grief at High Tide by Richard Willett from October 5-15, 2023. Violinist Jennifer Koh to Perform Missy Mazzoli Concerto with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra
 

(PRINCETON, NJ) -- GRAMMY® Award-winning violinist Jennifer Koh appears with the Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) at performances the weekend of October 14-15, 2023. She will play Missy Mazzoli's Violin Concerto (Procession), which was written specifically for her in 2022. Also on the program are Felix Mendelssohn's Scottish-inspired The Hebrides Overture (Fingal's Cave), Op. 26 and Jean Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 43, one of his most popular works.

New Jersey Symphony Presents Opening Weekend Concerts and Jurassic Park in Concert
 

(NEWARK, NJ) -- The New Jersey Symphony will present ten concerts in five venues throughout New Jersey this October. The 2023–24 season opens on October 14 in Newark and October 15 in New Brunswick with concerts titled "Ellington & Dvořák: New Worlds," which explore the music of Black composers such as Duke Ellington and William Grant Still. The concerts open with a work by living composer Valerie Coleman, which starts with a whisper and gradually builds to a melody, evoking the power and sweetness of Umoja, the Swahili word for unity (also the title of the piece).

 



Music at Bunker Hill presents the Horszowski Trio
 

(SEWELL, NJ) -- In its first appearance with Music at Bunker Hill, the Horszowski Trio will present works by Haydn, Bolcom and Dvorak. Of special interest to audiences is the fun connection between the Haydn Piano Trio in E minor and Bolcom's Introduzione e Rondo "Haydn Go Seek." The concert will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, (330 Greentree Road) in Sewell, New Jersey. Showtime is 3:00pm.

Charles Honeywell’s narrative short, Pictures Only, will be shown online at the New Jersey Film Festival on Friday, September 29, 2023, for 24 hours. Telling the story of Louise Parker, an African American painter who specializes in African art, who is let go from her job and has received an eviction notice. She quickly finds a new job as a dancer at a strip club and loves the freedom and popularity it brings her. However, in exploring the lucrative business and her place within it, she risks her mother finding out and allowing her family to lose everything.

West Windsor Arts to Present an Evening of Traditional Indian Dance with Shivani Badgi
 

(PRINCETON JUNCTION, NJ) -- West Windsor Arts is hosting a special solo dance performance by Shivani Badgi, an Indian American dancer, teacher and choreographer, on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Badgi will perform Nritya Mehfil, a traditional Kathak dance that originated in northern India hundreds of years ago. Kathak is derived from the Sanskrit word "katha," which means story. During a Kathak performance, the dancer becomes a storyteller through graceful, expressive movements.

(BAYVILLE, NJ) -- See the many sides of Ocean County's terrain, skies and landmarks through the art of longtime shore resident Errol "Bud" Sylvester, on display October 2-25 and November 13-17, 2023 at the Ocean County Library Berkeley Branch. Sylvester's paintings cover a broad expanse of representational subjects, including landscapes, beachscapes, snow scenes, lighthouses, and shore bird life.

Somerset County Park Commission to Host 1770s Festival
 

(BASKING RIDGE, NJ) -- Enjoy colonial-time fun with the entire family at the 1770s Festival, which is sponsored by the Somerset County Park Commission's Environmental Education Center (EEC). The event will be held on Sunday, October 1, from 11:30am to 4:00pm, at Lord Stirling Manor, located at 96 Lord Stirling Road (off South Maple Ave), Basking Ridge. If there is heavy rain, the festival will take place at the EEC on 190 Lord Stirling Road, Basking Ridge. Dogs are not allowed. There is a suggested donation of $5 per person.
