World premiere play "Child Support" explores emotional and financial repercussions of playing the 'child support game' (CAMDEN, NJ) -- Urgent, searing and wildly inventive, the world premiere of Child Support by Desi P. Shelton uses humor and hypertheatricality to examine single parenthood and financial responsibility from the points of view of everyone impacted by a broken system. A site-specific, immersive experience set in a typical Camden row house, the action is scored by composer Jamal P. Dickerson and features a live band under the eye of musical director JoJo Streater. Barrymore Award-winner Ozzie Jones directs for an October 13 opening, with performances running through October 28 at Camden Repertory Theatre. Public previews begin September 28.
Discover Your Inner Star - NextGen Acting & Playhouse 22 Launch Fall After School Acting Academy for New Jersey Youth (EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ) -- NextGen Acting, in partnership with Playhouse 22, is thrilled to announce the launch of their Fall After School Acting Academy, a specialized program designed to unleash the creative potential in children and teens. The academy offers a range of classes to students aged 7-12 and teens, focusing on modern performing arts like improv, voice over, on-camera acting, and musical theatre. They will hold an Open House on Thursday, September 7, 2023 from 6:30pm-7:30pm to show exciting acting and improv classes for kids and teens.
Dragonfly Multicultural Arts presents "India Pale Ale" - a play about family, pirates, and beer (PLAINFIELD, NJ) -- Dragonfly Multicultural Arts Center, a community theater in residence at duCret Center of Art, located at 1030 Central Ave, Plainfield, New Jersey, will present India Pale Ale, a drama about a Punjabi Indian family in Wisconsin. Directed by Priya Iyer, India Pale Ale will be presented on September 15th at 8:00pm, September 16th at 8:00pm, and September 17th at 3:00pm.
CDC Theatre to Open Season with "Head Over Heels" (CRANFORD, NJ) -- CDC Theatre in Cranford will open their 105th season with Head Over Heels from October 13-28, 2023. This is the bold new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Avenue Q and Spring Awakening. This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980's all-female rock band The Go-Go's, including the hit songs, "We Got the Beat," "Our Lips Are Sealed," "Vacation," Belinda Carlisle's "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and "Mad About You."
