Cape May Stage presents "Art" by Yasmina Reza

originally published: 07/11/2023

(CAPE MAY, NJ) -- The award-winning play Art opens at Cape May Stage on July 20th and runs through August 27, 2023 with shows Tuesday through Sunday nights at 8:00pm. Written by internationally acclaimed playwright Yasmina Reza and directed by Roy Steinberg, this comedic show is set in Paris and focuses on the meaning of art and friendship in a battle of wits and words.

Featuring actors Christopher Dolman, Scott Greer, and Timothy D. Stickney, Art follows the lives of three close friends: Serge, Marc, and Yvan. When Serge acquires an expensive painting, it ignites a heated debate about the piece's artistic worth, disrupting the harmony of their long-standing friendships. As tensions rise and hidden conflicts emerge, the play delves into deeper themes of personal identity, loyalty, and the intricate dynamics of human relationships.

Called “…funny, engaging, and devilishly efficient” by The Washington Post, Art has enjoyed tremendous success worldwide, receiving the Tony Award for Best Play, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding New Play, and the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Comedy.

Reza's witty and thought-provoking script has captivated audiences globally, and this production promises to be no exception. "We are thrilled to bring Art to Cape May Stage," says Roy Steinberg, Producing Artistic Director at Cape May Stage. "This play is a true gem of contemporary theater, exploring themes that deeply resonate with audiences.”

Tickets are available for purchase online or by calling the box office at 609-770-8311.  Their Box Office is open daily in the Robert Shackleton Theater located at 405 Lafayette Street in Cape May, NJ.  Credit cards and cash payments accepted.
