"Becoming A Woman" Has Two Performances During United Solo Festival

originally published: 10/20/2022

(NEW YORK, NY) -- New theater performance, ‘Becoming a Woman’, a story about growing up that promises both humor and brutal honesty, is set to debut at Theater Row (410 W. 42nd St.) on Saturday, October 22 at 8:30pm ET. The production introduces Rachel Frost, who has both written and will star in her first solo show debut, to be directed by Erica Silberman. The show is part of the United Solo festival and will host an additional performance on Sunday, November 13 at 2:00pm ET at the same location.

‘Becoming a Woman’ is Frost’s response to the struggles of choosing to become a mother. “I knew that I wanted to make a piece about the pressure women in our culture feel as we age,” said Frost. “It is a conscious-raising piece that explores both sides, simultaneously filtered through my ambitions as a female artist, and based on the challenges I endured in my childhood.”

I was just a regular 15-year-old girl. That is, until the fateful day I collapsed on the hospital floor. Then I became a woman. A story about growing up that promises both humor and brutal honesty, ‘Becoming A Woman’ ultimately questions how and when we choose what matters to us most - and if those moments haunt us forever.

RACHEL FROST (she/her) is a graduate of the William Esper Studio conservatory. Most recently she has been seen off-Broadway at the Jerry Orbach Theater in Chasing Jack (Taylor) as well as the Theater for the New City in Passing Fancies (Liana). On screen, she's performed in a multitude of independent projects, including one of her own - her film Bound (2021) will premiere as part of the New York Shorts International Film Festival on October 24 at Cinema Village. Rachel is thrilled to join the United Solo Festival group of performers with her solo debut, Becoming A Woman.

ERICA SILBERMAN has directed solo shows for festivals and venues across the city including the United Solo Festival, Manhattan Theatre Source and Dixon place. As a playwright, her work has been produced or developed at the Dramatic Question Theatre (DQT), the Ensemble Studio Theatre (EST), the Last Frontier Theatre Conference, New Perspectives, Six Figures, and the Stonington Opera House. She is the current Special Events Manager for DQT, where she further developed her plays In the Night Everyone is Equal, and Ms. Baxter's Good Deed as a Playtime Fellow. Also at DQT, she was an associate dramaturg for the American Woman initiative; directed Ten: Four Monologues; and associate produced Micheal Mejias’s Ghetto Babylon at 59e59 Theatres. She is the former ringmaster of DQT’s Flying Circus which she conceived and implemented from 2017-2020. She co-founded, produced, directed, and wrote for Eating Theatre, an alternative dinner theatre experience in LIC. Ms. Silberman is a member of the DQT, Dramatists Guild Of America, The League Of Professional Theatre Women, and a former Co-President of Women In The Arts & Media. She is the Director of Curriculum & Engagement at Girls Write Now, an award-winning writing and mentoring nonprofit for girls and gender expansive youth.
