originally published: 09/26/2022

(JERSEY CITY, NJ) -- Pro Arts Jersey City showcases two new exhibitions that feature new work created in 2022 by Pro Arts and ART150 members. From work submitted for Right Now, Dr.Butera selected ten standout artists to exhibit in the ART150 Gallery for the month of October. A second set of work was selected by the Pro Arts exhibition team to exhibit in a temporary gallery located in the same building. This pop up show will only be up for the three days of the JCAST weekend.

About the Curator: Virginia Fabbri Butera, PhD (Ginny), is the Director of the Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery, Chair of the Art Department and Professor of Art History at Saint Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ. She has curated exhibitions at the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Yale University Art Gallery, the Toledo Museum of Art and other museums and galleries around the country and throughout New Jersey.

"What a pleasure it was to review the wide range of art submitted by many Pro Arts members for the Right Now exhibition. The variety of subject matter, media and styles reveals the ingenuity and talent within your group. As a result,  it was extremely hard to pare down the selection and I would have happily chosen twice the number of objects had there been room in the gallery. Keep pushing  yourself. This is some of the best art to ever come out of Pro Arts! Congratulations." -- Virginia Fabbri Butera, PhD

"Open

"Open Book(s)" - Adventures on the wild frontier of bookmaking, and meaning-making, in the first floor galleries of Mana Contemporary

Books do not need to be beautiful objects to be cherished. Many indispensable books on my shelf were in poor condition when I brought them home from the shop. The publishers who put out the cheap yellow-page paperbacks that rocked my world and set my course when I was a child didn’t give much consideration to font, printing, or paper stock. All that mattered was readability. Could I open it fast, close it up quick, and chuck it in my bag when I was done? If anybody at the publishing company was making design decisions, those were their objectives. Any impediment to or distraction from the reading experience was unwelcome. They took it for granted that everything that mattered was inside the book.
