Together, they tell the story of Afghanistan from its pre-Islamic Buddhist heritage through traditional Ghazals based on the Sufi inspired poetry of Rumi (who was born in Afghanistan) and the ‘Afghan Elvis,’ Ahmad Zahir, who took the music of Elvis Presley and translated it into Dari. Heart of Afghanistan’s idea is to give a 360-degree view of Afghan culture through music, poetry and art.

Smithsonian Traveling Exhibition Examining Democracy in America Comes to Monmouth Museum (LINCROFT, NJ) -- The Smithsonian’s Museum on Main Street (MoMS), in cooperation with New Jersey Council for the Humanities, presents “Voices and Votes: Democracy in America.” The exhibition examines the nearly 250-year-old American experiment of a government “of, by and for the people,” and how each generation since continues to question how to form “a more perfect union.” An Opening Reception will be held at the Monmouth Museum on the campus of Brookdale Community College on August 20 from 5:00-7:00pm. “Voices and Votes” will be on view through October 2, 2022.
Ocean County Library Toms River Branch presents Scott Molnar's "Pastel Interpretations" (TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- Enjoy pastel landscapes of local sites that you might already know. New Jersey artist Scott Molnar’s exhibit, “Pastel Interpretations of Ocean County,” will be on display throughout the month of September at the Ocean County Library Toms River Branch. Molnar’s pastels, enhanced by watercolor underpainting, will occupy the Library’s McConnell Gallery. Literature to Life to Perform at the National Book Festival (WASHINGTON, DC) -- Literature to Life (LTL), a performance-based literacy program that presents professionally staged verbatim adaptations of award-winning American literary classics, is set to perform at the prestigious National Book Festival, presented by the Library of Congress.
