Teaneck International Film Festival presents "Lilly" as Closing Film

(TEANECK, NJ) -- The Teaneck International Film Festival's 20th year program will close with the feature film, Lilly, on Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 7:30pm, at Temple Emeth (1666 Windsor Rd) in Teaneck. The film, based on the true story of Lilly Ledbetter, whose fight for equal rights in the workplace led to state and national legislation, is sponsored by YWCA of Northern New Jersey, Senator Loretta Weinberg, National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section, Shahanaz Arjumand, and WOW (Women of Wisdom).




 

Grunin Center for the Arts presents The Ocean Blue on Saturday

(TOMS RIVER, NJ) -- The Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College is excited to present a concert by The Ocean Blue on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 7:30pm. Getting their start as teenagers in the late 1980s in Hershey, PA, The Ocean Blue released their self-titled debut on the famed Sire Records, the same label that launched many of their heroes in the U.S., including the Smiths, the Pretenders, the English Beat, and Echo & the Bunnymen.



MAC Music Café presents Stu Coogan, Leah Kremer, Michael Baine and Mark Healey

(MIDDLETOWN, NJ) -- The Middletown Arts Center presents the MAC Music Café on Sunday, October 12, 2025, from 4:00pm-6:00pm. The monthly music showcase offers an exciting evening of original music and storytelling featuring four dynamic singer-songwriters: Stu Coogan, Leah Kremer, Michael Baine and Mark Healey. The event is FREE (with a suggested donation of $5).

I don't know how apocryphal it was, but I used to hear the informal designations all the time. Newark, I was told, was the place to get a kilo. Hence its nickname: Brick City. If you had a beef, you might take it up in infamous Illtown, properly known as East Orange. But people didn't fight in Jersey City. This town was considered gang truce territory, and this was the secret meaning behind our not-so-secret handle. Our nickname was Chilltown. We even had a Chilltown Magazine. I wrote for it.
