An Evening with Melba Moore

Sunday, February 01, 2026 @ 7:30pm

South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC)
One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ 07079

Melba Moore brings a powerhouse evening of soul, Broadway brilliance, and timeless R&B to South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 7:30pm. She will deliver the five‑octave vocal fire and trailblazing artistry that made her a Tony Award winner and Grammy‑nominated icon.

There are artists who entertain, and then there are artists who shape the cultural weather. Melba Moore has been doing the latter for more than five decades — bending genres, breaking ceilings, and singing with a clarity and conviction that feels almost spiritual.

Her show blends legendary hits like This Is It and You Stepped Into My Life with stories, spirit, and the electrifying stage presence that has captivated audiences for decades. It's a rare chance to experience a living legend up close in an intimate South Orange setting.

Moore's story is one of reinvention and resilience. From her historic rise in Hair to her Tony Award for Purlie, from chart‑topping hits to her recent star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, she has remained a symbol of what it means to keep creating, keep evolving, and keep showing up with joy.

What makes a Melba Moore performance special isn't just the five‑octave range — though that alone is worth the ticket. It's the way she threads her life into the music. Her shows feel like conversations: part testimony, part celebration, part masterclass in how to live a life rooted in purpose.

At SOPAC, audiences can expect a night that blends storytelling with the kind of vocal power that reminds you why live music still matters. It's intimate. It's communal. It's the kind of evening that lingers.

Joining Ms. Moore on this evening of music is emcee Lenny Green from New York City’s WBLS-FM and opening act Jeff Redd, known for the 90’s hit, “You Called and Told Me.”
